PUBLIC SAFETY
MONDAY, MAY 16
12:49 a.m. — A resident on Southeast Fourth Street, Irrigon,
complained about his neighbors playing music too loud. He said
he was frustrated because they woke up and he has to be at work
in the morning and this is an ongoing problem. A Morrow County
sheriff ’s deputy responded, and the neighbor turned down the
volume.
7:19 a.m. — A property owner on West Fourth Road, Irrigon,
reported a raccoon was in their pasture and appeared “to be in bad
shape” and maybe had rabies.
2:30 p.m. — A caller reported his new tenant at Baltimore
Apartments, 180 N.W. Baltimore St., Heppner, was the victim of a
robbery that occurred late at night. Morrow County Sheriff s’ Offi ce
is investigating.
3:19 p.m. — Morrow County Sheriff s’ Offi ce received another
call about Baltimore Apartments, Heppner. The previous caller
reported the suspect from the other report broke into another
apartment and now many items are missing.
8:25 p.m. — A resident on the 1400 block of Chestnut Street,
Miilton-Freewater, reported their vehicle was keyed/scratched
while they were away from it. Local security video may provide
some suspect information.
TUESDAY, MAY 17
7:13 a.m. — Pilot Rock police responded to Southwest Cedar
Street on a report of harassment.
8:24 a.m. — Umatilla County sheriff ’s offi cers located graffi ti at
Marie Dorian Park, 79393-79499 Couse Creek Road, Milton-Freewa-
ter, and took a report.
10:07 a.m. — A woman told Hermiston police she would like to
talk to an offi cer about her ex, who keeps calling her at work and
texting.
10:57 a.m. — Hermiston police received a complaint about a
verbal domestic disturbance on West Laird Avenue.
11:16 a.m. — Hermiston police and a crisis team responded to a
resident who was suff ering mental/emotional duress.
12:56 p.m. — A caller at Umatilla Wildlife Refuge off Ferry Road
and Third Street, Umatilla, reported seeing a sick deer on the nature

trail near the fountain. Umatilla County Sheriff ’s Offi ce referred the
caller to another agency.
1:39 p.m. — Pendleton police received a report of a burglary on
the 1500 block of Southwest Goodwin Place.
1:55 p.m. — Umatilla police initiated activity for active graffi ti at
Third Street and Cline Avenue.
3:01 p.m. — Umatilla County sheriff ’s deputies responded to
West Highland Avenue and Southwest 11th Street, Hermiston, on
a report of harassment.
4:56 p.m. — Umatilla police responded to Cartwright Avenue
for a domestic disturbance.
5:35 p.m. — A caller at a city park of an unknown address in
Adams, reported that this morning when he was driving his school
bus he went to pick up about 30 children from a bus stop. The
caller stated there was an adult male at the stop that interacted
with the children but none of the children knew him. The caller is
requesting an offi cer look into this.
5:42 p.m. — A Milton-Freewater resident on the 400 block of
Robbins Street reported new graffi ti on their fence and house.
Police are investigating.
6:36 p.m. — A caller made a complaint about three transients
in an alley on East Oregon Avenue, Hermiston. The caller said she
did not want them there. Police responded and issued a warning.
7:13 p.m. — Umatilla police responded to Third Street for a
domestic disturbance.
11:44 p.m. — Pilot Rock police responded to Southwest Birch
Street for a domestic disturbance.
ARRESTS, CITATIONS
May 17
• Umatilla Tribal Police arrested Kendra Margaret Sohappy, 24,
for driving under the infl uence of intoxicants.
• Umatilla County Sheriff ’s Offi ce arrested Eduardo Perez Ruiz,
35, for third-degree assault.
May 18
• Pilot Rock police arrested Michael Glen Wilson, 33, for felony
strangulation, felony fourth-degree assault and interfering with
making a report bail.
February 5, 1959 - May 8, 2022
Charles Lyle Austin, 63,
died unexpectedly of heart
complications on May 8, 2022, at
his home in Stanfield, Oregon. He
was born Feb. 5, 1959, in Boise
Idaho, the son of Ralph Austin and
Patricia (Murray) Thomason.
Charles graduated from Kamiah
High School, class of 1978.
Following graduation, he moved
to Oregon. While living in Oregon, he worked for
Hale Companies as a financial controller until 2005
when he became owner and operator of P4 & More
Computers, which he owned and worked at until his
unexpected death. When not working at his computer
store, Charles enjoyed; reading and listening to stories,
fishing with family, gardening and working in his yard.
In addition to his parents, a sister, Kathy Jones; and
nephew, Jason Blankenship, preceded him.
Charles is survived by, his daughter, April Burnham,
and husband, Scott, of Stanfield; son, Joshua Austin,
and wife, Ginnielynne, of Norwich, Connecticut; three
grandchildren, Bronwyn, Declan and Theodore; two
sisters, Molly Blankenship, and husband, Gordon, of
Stanfield, Brenda Crabb, of Pendleton; one brother,
Albert Austin, of Echo; many nieces and nephews and
many other family members.
A private service was held.

Nancy Helen Swanson, 79, of
Milton-Freewater, Oregon, passed
away Sunday, May 1, 2022, at
Cascade Valley Assisted Living
Center
in
Milton-Freewater.
Graveside services were held on
Saturday, May 14, 2022, at Milton-
Freewater cemetery.
Nancy was born April 10, 1943,
in Omaha, Nebraska, to T. Bruce
and Helen (Cady) Louthan. She spent her childhood
growing up on a farm near Wedd, Iowa, and attended
Webb Community School. She went on to attend Iowa
State University.
In December 1962, she married Dennis Adams
in Webb, Iowa. They made their home in Oregon.
Two children were born to this union, Michael and
Louise. They later divorced and Nancy married
Robert Swanson on May 1, 1976, in Pendleton,
Oregon. Robert passed away in 2006. Nancy enjoyed
spending time with family, sewing, camping, boating
and shopping. She is survived by her children,
Michael Adams of Rocklin, California and Louise
Waggoner of Dayton, Washington; stepsons, Robert
Jr. and Eric Swanson of Oregon City, Oregon; four
grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and one
brother, Stephen (Nancy) Louthan of Hudson, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband
and brother, Tommy Louthan.

Jerry Edmond Myers
July 1, 1934 - May 13, 2022
Jerry Edmond Myers of Hep-
pner was born on his family ranch
near Heppner on July 1, 1934,
the son of Jasper and Lila (Bar-
tholomew) Myers. He passed away
in Hermiston on May 13, 2022, at
the age of 87.
Jerry lived on his family ranch
throughout his childhood, attend-
ing schools at Pine City and Echo
High School. He then studied agri-
culture sciences at Oregon State College for three years.
He met Nancy Schuler while attending college and the
couple were united in marriage on Jan. 16, 1955, in
Portland, Oregon.
Jerry and Nancy returned to the family ranch where
he has worked and lived throughout his life. He and his
father, Jasper, were innovators who always worked to
fabricate their equipment to find more efficient and bet-
ter ways to farm. He was also active in the Heppner
Elks Lodge, was involved in the development of Lake
Pendland, served on the Umatilla Electric Cooperative
board, attending the Morrow County Road Department,
as well as many other ways of serving his community.
He enjoyed bowling, had his pilot’s license and enjoyed
flying his Cessna 182, taking trips to Maui and boating.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Nancy; sons,
John and Eileen Myers, Sam and Terri Myers; daughter,
Wendy and Dan King; eight grandchildren, Rushelle,
Danyelle, Chelsea, Austin, Skylan, Ashley, Casey and
Sydney; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces
and nephews and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jasper and
Lila; brother, Charles; two sisters, Janet and Shirley.
A Memorial Service for friends and family will be
held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday May 24, 2022 at the Burns
Mortuary of Hermiston (685 W. Hermiston Avenue
Hermiston, Oregon). Burns Mortuary of Hermiston is
in care of arrangements.

Ival R. Sullivan of Irrigon,
Oregon, was born on Sept. 9, 1936,
in Upton, Missouri, the son of John
and Lela Sullivan. He passed away
in Hermiston, Oregon, on Feb. 9,
2022, at the age of 85, surrounded
by loved ones.
Ival spent his early years in
Missouri. His father’s job in
construction took them to many
areas before finally settling down in Irrigon, Oregon.
He graduated from Irrigon High School in 1955. At
this same time, he met the love of his life, Ruth Shade,
whom he married in 1955. They were married for a long
and loving 67 years.
Ival worked with his father in construction for
several years. He later took a job back in Irrigon with
the West Extension Irrigation District before going into
business for himself, boarding and training horses. He
was involved with horses throughout his life at many
levels, showing, training, boarding, riding lessons and
taught numerous horse clinics throughout the northwest.
He loved sharing his knowledge and love of horses.
Ival loved and was so very proud of all his children,
grandchild and great-grandchildren. He always found
time to attend just about any event his grandchildren
were participating in. He was loved by everyone who
knew him and he will be greatly missed.
Ival is survived by his wife, Ruth Sullivan; their
three children, Vickie Ellison (Rick), Valarie Henderson
(Randy), Jay Sullivan (Kelly); seven grandchildren and
14 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his
parents.
A celebration of life graveside service will be held
on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at 1 p.m. at Desert Lawn
Memorial Cemetery, Irrigon, Oregon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made
to the Vange John Memorial Hospice Education Fund.

Eleanor Lorraine (Jones) Rosenquist
October 19, 1931 - April 22, 2022
Eleanor was born Oct. 19, 1931,
to Myron and Lucille (Phelps)
Jones. They lived on a family farm
near Glenwood, Iowa. She was
later joined by a brother Roger. She
enjoyed the animals and gardening
with her mother.
After graduating Glenwood
High School in 1949, she attended
the Immanuel Hospital nursing
program, graduating in 1952. There she met a classmate
named, Donna Rosenquist, that introduced her to her
brother, Dale, whom she married in 1953. They had
two children, Beth and Bruce, and raised them in
Iowa, Colorado, Nevada and Oregon. Eleanor worked
in many areas of nursing including hospitals, doctor's
offices, surgery and jailhouse nursing.
Eleanor and her husband, Dale, loved traveling
to many different countries. After Dale died in 2014,
she moved to Omaha at Immanuel Village in 2015
and enjoyed many years attending events and meeting
people that lived there, some from her hometown!
She was a member of Vasa Order of America Omaha
Lodge No. 331 and The Scottish Society of Nebraska
and attended many Isaac Cummings Family Assoc.
Reunions for her Scottish side. She also enjoyed her
P.E.O. in Oregon and Omaha.
She and her daughter traveled to Scotland to visit
Cummings Castles and then to Alaska since Eleanor
had wanted to see that state.
She enjoyed two wonderful 90th birthday parties in
October 2021.
She passed away quietly early morning on April 22,
2022 in Omaha.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brother,
Roger Jones, and many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-
law and cousins. She is survived by daughter, Beth
Rosenquist (Omaha); son, Bruce Rosenquist and wife
Renee (Oregon); grandchildren, Neil Rosenquist, Ft.
Bragg, California; and Emelia Rosenquist, in Oregon;
and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorials can be given to Iowa State Myron C.,
Lucille C. and Roger M. Jones scholarship, Ames, Iowa
50011; Immanuel-Midland Nursing Alumni Assoc. at
Midland Univ., 900 Clarkson St., Freemont, NE 68025;
Bethel Lutheran Church, 103 Clover, Kiron, IA 51448;
or Hillsdale Methodist Church, 27068 Kimberling Ave.,
Glenwood, IA 51534.
Services were held May 7, 2022, at Bethel Lutheran
Church, Kiron Iowa.
