CROSSROADS CARNEGIE ART CENTER 2020 Auburn Ave. On May 6, Crossroads will open “From Fire and Light,” presented by Rich Bergeman and Kristiann Mannion. The opening reception is 5:30-8 p.m. with music by Nancy Ames and a drawing for a $25 gift certifi cate to Copper Belt Wines. “From Fire and Light” is a col- laborative exhibit featuring the infrared photography of Berge- man and the functional, fi ne art ceramic work of Mannion. On Saturday, May 7, Berge- man will host a free demonstra- tion of his infrared photography at 11 a.m. at Crossroads. Justin Zimmerman will show- case the world of comics in his show at Churchill, which opens at 5:30 p.m. Friday. Zimmerman, who has an MFA in fi lm, has worked in comics for about 10 years — writing, creat- ing and editing in the graphic novel fi eld. He also creates mo- tion trailers for all his books. He works with a variety of artists who create images for the script, and he will show this original artwork, and explain the process from art to graphic novel, during the show at Churchill. The exhibit includes large-scale oil paint- ings of food. 2028 Main St. This bake shop will display the art of Kurious Karissa, who said she began painting in 2012 as a street performer us- ing spray paint and unorthodox materials. “Adding some fire and loud music to the mix, its like a spur of the moment party anywhere I decided to set up,” she said. Her artwork at Sweet Wife “will be the raw, back-to-the- roots-style traditional aerosol graphia that I did live for the public for seven years — all spray paint, no paintbrushes, no stencils. I use random mate- rials like grocery bags, plastics, magazines, old newspapers and cardboard to create mag- nificent textures and manipu- late the paint how I desire.” Her show opens Friday, 5-8 p.m. WHITE HOUSE ART AND DESIGN CO. 1829 Main St. This shop will honor the memory of artist Trish Hooper in a display titled “Beautiful Artist, Beautiful Friend.” The evening reception runs from 5-8 p.m. Friday.
