Stanley Leo Cook February 13, 1944 - March 20, 2022 Stanley Leo Cook, husband, family enthusiast, accomplished blue collar man and notorious flirt, passed away March 20, 2022, with his wife and his dog by his side in Albany, Oregon. Stan was the youngest of three children. Born on Feb. 13, 1944, to Lynn Fredrick Cook and Eleanor Koos Cook of Dallas, Oregon. Graduating from Dallas High School, Stan went on to further his education at Oregon Technical Institute in conjunction with joining the Army National Guard. Life then pointed him in the direction of the United States Forest Service where he worked for nine years. After nearly a decade with USFS in Detroit, Oregon, he decided to hang up his forestry hat, and purchased a Sears hardware store in Pilot Rock, Oregon. It was there in Pilot Rock when fate took a twist and brought a fellow Dallas alumni, MaryAnn Grubs Storer, back into his life. They married March 2, 1975, and he considered himself the luckiest man since. A few years later, totaling out as a household of five, Stan and MaryAnn packed up and headed west for Oregon City, Oregon. Stanley opened S.M.A.C.K.S. Construction, naming it after his family Stan, MaryAnn, Able, Kecia, Shad. S.M.A.C.K.S. specialized in mobile home construction and renovation. Stan had a dedication to hard work and staying busy. Something he instilled in his sons, Abe and Shad. After some time, S.M.A.C.K.S. ventured out from mobile home construction and built the outbuilding behind the Oregon City Les Schwab. Stanley’s hard-work philosophy awarded him a position as superintendent on the construction of a 12-acre building for Les Schwab located in Prineville, Oregon. After a year-long build, Stanley decided it was time to live a little more and work a little less, passing the S.M.A.C.K.S. Construction torch to Abe and Shad. Stan had a lifelong love for the outdoors — especially when the ocean was involved. When the word retirement arose, Newport was the destination. Stan built MaryAnn a home on the hillside. Together they cultivated an oasis that always had a seat at the table for friends and family, however, be prepared for a competitive game of cards after dessert. Stan understood the simplicity of living a great life with those you love. He was a proud uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. Grandpa Cookie was his alias for eight grandkids and nine great- grandkids. He loved being a grandpa. In his 78 calendar years on Earth, Stan never stopped. He was a member of the Order of the Antelope-Hart Mountain where he was appointed the honor of Chief White Tail. OOTA was important to Stanley and being able to include all the sons and grandsons brought it all full circle. He was the kind of man who laughed and loved daily. Oh so proud of his naughty sense of humor, he was sure to have you laughing and blushing by the end of the evening. He was as compassionate as he was funny, and he had a smile that could brighten any day. Stanley showed us what a good man was. What 47 years of real love looks like, how to fix things, how to build things, how to get over things and how to reuse a good bucket. Stan was greeted in heaven by his mother, Eleanor Koos Cook, and father, Lynn Fredrick Cook (Dallas, Oregon), his brother, James L Cook (West Linn, Oregon). Those waiting to see him again are his wife of 47 blissful years, MaryAnn Cook (Newport), son, Shad Cook and Angie Fennell (Oregon City), Abe and Lori Cook (Oregon City), and daughter, Kecia Parr (Stayton), eight grandkids, Gage Cook, Telissa Breck, Jared Walton, Dustin Cook, Kylee Killian, Joey Buley, Judd Buley, Chase Powell and nine great-grandkids.
