ALLOWA — After a two-
year hiatus, the Wallowa
Fiddle Tunes Camp returns
this summer, July 10-15, to the
campus of Wallowa Elemen-
tary School.
Registration is open now,
and Robyn Burns, camp direc-
tor, wants to remind everyone
that the camp is happening
once again.
“People are out of the habit of
looking for us,” she said.
Space is open for 100 camp-
ers. In typical years, Burns said,
the registration is about 2/3
adults and 1/3 youth.
For younger campers, she
said workshops are geared to-
ward kids who have at least one
year of music experience, or are
age 9 and older.
There will be a mini camp for
the younger children.

RVs can be parked in the back
of the school, although there are
no hookups.
The camp started in 2005.
This year’s instructors are Kat
Bula (fi ddle), Andy Emert (fi ddle),
Carla Arnold (Kidz fi ddle), Isaac
Olson (old-time banjo), Matt
Bell (swing guitar), Duane Boyer
(beginning guitar), Laura Quigley
(upright bass) and Amy Fairchild
(ukulele). The mini camp for
younger kids will be led by Emer-
son Music Arts.
“Every instructor has their
own classroom,” Burns said.
In addition to Robyn Burns as
the director, Mike Burns is the
co-director, and Kelsey Juve is
in charge of lunch catering. The
focus of the camp, Robyn Burns
said, is to help musicians learn
how to play with together.
“We are giving the tools to
navigate playing music to-
gether,” she said. “Learning that
common language.”
Every evening will feature
campsite jams. There will also
be an open mic night, square
dance and community dance
during the week. On Thursday,
July 14, the camp faculty will
perform at the Courthouse
Concert in Enterprise.
