She was born on May 14, 1925, in Yankton, Oregon, to Axle and Celinda (Erickson) Ol- sen. She graduated from St. Helens High School in 1942. That same year she married Marvin “Red” Anderson and moved to the Pilot Rock area. She worked for Pa- cific Northwest Bell at various times from 1951 until 1986. She was the project manager and network ser- vice manager for Eastern Oregon from 1973 until 1979 working out of the Pendleton and Bend offices. In 1979, she transferred to the Portland office where she retired in 1986. She married Jesse Arvine Porter and lived in Pi- lot Rock for several years prior to moving to Pend- leton in 1971. On Oct. 1, 1986, she married Roger C. Doyle. They resided in Portland and Pendleton. Mary enjoyed winters in California, Mexico and Ar- izona. She also enjoyed golfing and family. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Rod and Roberta Anderson, of Pilot Rock, Terry and Debby Anderson, of Pilot Rock, Lane and Denise Por- ter, of Athena; daughter and son-in-law, Cherie and Russ Evans, of Pendleton; sister, Florence Herman, of Warrenton, and several step-children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Axle and Celinda Olsen, husband, Roger Doyle, daughter, Karen Gifford and brother, Hilding Olsen. Houweling SUNDAY, MARCH 27 2:16 a.m. — The resident on the 200 block of Northeast Pioneer Drive, Heppner, who reported the dog theft called again and said the female returned and was causing a dis- turbance. A Morrow County sheriff’s deputy responded. 8:05 a.m. — A resident on Mount Hood Avenue, Board- Bert J. Houweling, age 71, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2022, in Kennewick, Washington. Bert was born on June 15, 1950, in Den Haag, Netherlands, to Albert and Maria Houweling. Bert’s family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, when he was 6 years old. He always had fond memories of his childhood there. When Bert was 12 years old, his family moved to Bellevue, Washington. He was hired by a neighbor to clean stalls and exercise their horses and it was then that he discovered a love for horses. Bert served in the United States Army as military police and was honorably discharged in September of 1976. Bert later became a member of both The Odd Fellows and The Elks Lodge. As a young man, Bert worked at Fred Meyer and became their youngest store manager. From there, he went to Associated Grocers in Seattle, and eventually owned Heppner Family Foods in Heppner, Oregon. Bert enjoyed his employees, and the people he interacted with daily at his store in Heppner. But above all, he loved his children, Charlene, Jason and Candice. Bert was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Houweling and Maria (Van Der Meer) Houweling. Bert is survived by his children, Charlene M. Houweling, Jason E. Houweling and Candice Felstad; and his siblings, Hubertina Seal, Mary Skidmore, Albert C. Houweling, Jeannette Ruijgrok, Jessie Hargrove and Shirley VanSchie. Main St. (541-676-9618) Friday, March 25, 2022 A5 Pamela Jane Patnode November 28, 1954 - March 19, 2022 Pamela Jane Patnode left this Earth and entered into glory to spend eternity with her precious Savior on March 19, 2022. Pam was born on Nov. 28, 1954, to Edward and Doris Snodderly in Hawthorne, California. Pam spent her early years in Los Angeles County until her dad decided he did not want to raise her in the big city and moved the family to a small farm in Lostine, Oregon. After graduation, Pam attended BMCC where she played on the volleyball team, winning several championships. Pam’s lifelong career in Human Services involved working with disabled adults and emotionally challenged children. Her career began at Eastern Oregon Hospital, moving on to Bethage, Eastern Oregon Training Center and retiring from Mid-Columbia Center for Living in 2019. Pam’s compassionate heart made a lifelong difference in many lives. Pam was an anointed keyboardist and psalmist who learned to play by ear. She began her love for music learning to play the accordion at 8 years old. She became an accomplished accordion player winning many awards. She later learned to play the keyboard, writing many songs of faith that she sang in church and ministered to those in need. Pam was an active member of Living Word Christian Center in Pendleton as a worship leader and ministering to children. Pam was an avid fisherman whose cast put the fear of God in every fish in the stream. She enjoyed camping with her friends and her god-daughter Kaeleen. She was known as “Auntie Pam” to many children who enriched her life greatly and gave her much joy. She was a foster parent to two very special boys who enlarged her heart and home with much love. Pam was a counselor with Good Samaritan Ministries for many years where she touched many lives with her strong faith and her ability to really listen to people. Her home was an open door for prayer and bible study over the years. Pam’s compassionate and kind heart touched multitudes of lives over the years. She had mercy and kindness for everyone. Her trust in the Lord and His words were a true anchor in her life. She will be deeply missed. Pam is survived by her niece, Kelly Wheeler; nephew, Joshua Brooks of College Place, Washington; her brother-in-law, Ron Wheeler, and her best friend, Marie Mize of Pendleton. A celebration of life service will be held on March 31 at 1 p.m. at Living Word Christian Center in Pendleton. Fleming March 8, 1949 - March 19, 2022 Johnny D. Fleming, age 73, died March 19, 2022, at St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton, Oregon. He is survived by a wife, Barbara C. Fleming, eight children, Michael Ristine, Jerry Ristine, Shawn Fleming, Jason Fleming (Misty), Jeremiah Fleming (Christina), Kristina Fleming, Lacee Shaver (Rick) and Crystal Fleming. He also left behind 23 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Johnny is a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he earned several medals: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60, Bronze Star Medal w/V device, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm, and a Good Conduct Medal. He grew up near Bremerton, Washington, and was the third born of seven. His parents were Albert Fleming and Marjorie Curtis Fleming. Johnny was a proud Army veteran, phenomenal salesman and a jack of all trades who loved spending time with his friends and family. His hobbies were working on and riding motorcycles, buying vintage cars, remote control airplanes, hunting, camping and fishing. There will be a celebration of life for Johnny D.
