30-Day Comment Period
Opportunity to Comment on the Proposed Pomeroy
Danger Tree and Fire Salvage project.
The Forest Service, Umatilla National Forest, Pomeroy Ranger
District, is preparing an Environmental Assessment for the Pome-
roy Danger Tree and Fire Salvage project. The project would re-
move danger trees and hazard trees jeopardizing public health
and safety along Forest Service roads and within developed rec-
reation sites; restore portions of the landscape burned by wildfire
by initiating reforestation; and recover forest economic value and
benefits through salvage, generating revenues to support the ac-
complishment of project objectives. The project is located approxi-
mately 20 miles south of Pomeroy, WA; in the area northeast of the
Wenaha-Tucannon Wilderness.
Information about the proposed action is available for review on
the Forest Service website at https://go.usa.gov/xzEJ6. Questions
regarding this proposed action should be directed to the project
lead, Lindsay Lockard at 509-522-6043.
The purpose of this comment period is to provide an opportunity
for the public to provide early and meaningful participation on the
proposed action prior to a decision being made by the Responsi-
ble Official. There will be no other designated comment period.
The Forest Service is combining scoping with the legal notice and
opportunity to comment, as described in 36 CFR §218.24.
Please note that the district is requesting an emergency situation
determination (ESD) for the project as provided for in 36 CFR §
218.21. If an ESD is granted, the proposed action will not be sub-
ject to the predecisional objection process and implementation
may proceed when the decision is documented in a Decision No-
tice.
Comments concerning this action will be accepted for 30 calendar
days following the publication of this notice in the East Oregonian.
The publication date in the East Oregonian is the exclusive means
for calculating the comment period for this analysis. Those wishing
to comment should not rely upon dates or time frame information
provided by any other source.
The regulations prohibit extending the length of the comment pe-
riod. It is the responsibility of persons providing comments to sub-
mit them by the close of the comment period.
Comments can be submitted online at https://go.usa.gov/xzEJ6.
Written comments should be mailed to Susan Piper, Pomeroy Dis-
trict Ranger, 71 West Main, Pomeroy, WA 99347.
