Police took a report. 9:30 a.m. — Drivers in Irri- gon lost access to Southeast 11th Street until the afternoon due to construction. 9:58 am. — A caller on West Joseph Avenue reported that her neighbor was yelling at her because her dog is in the neigh- bor’s yard. 10:01 a.m. — A caller on West Joseph Avenue called to complain that her neighbor’s dog is in her yard. 10:57 a.m. — A caller on the 10 block of Southwest Ninth Avenue, Milton-Freewater, reported the theft of a Samsung Galaxy S smart- phone with a cover from a vehicle sometime during the weekend. Police took a report. 11:09 a.m. — A caller at BJK Truck Parts, 80862 Highway 395, Hermiston, reported his gray 1997 Honda Civic was stolen. The caller stated he drove to work this morn- ing, arriving at 8 a.m. and just came outside now and the vehicle is gone. Umatilla County Sheriff ’s Offi ce took a report. 12:44 p.m. — A man called Hermiston police to talk to an offi cer regarding his ex-girlfriend being stalked and becoming a vic- tim of identity theft. 1:11 p.m. — A 911 caller at The Links Apartments, 310 Klickitat St., Umatilla, reported the theft of the sensor to her weather station. 1:35 p.m. — A resident on East Jennie Avenue, Hermiston, reported he lost his Glock hand- gun or someone stole it. Police took a report. 2:15 p.m. — A caller reported a violation of a restraining order on West Orchard Avenue, Hermiston. 4:24 p.m. — A caller at Irrigon Shell station, 300 S.E. Highway 730, reported one female struck another female. A Morrow County sheriff ’s deputy responded, but the victim did not want to report a crime. The deputy gave her a ride to Boardman. 4:49 p.m. — A Hermiston res- ident asked to speak to an offi - cer about middle school students “sending very graphic videos to each other in group chat.” The caller reported his daughter showed him a video and was concerned other children are sending those videos. 6:01 p.m. — A 911 caller on Highway 730 near Beach Access Road in Umatilla, reported a red pickup was swerving in and out of lanes, heading westbound on Highway 730. Umatilla police were unable to locate the vehicle. 6:28 p.m. — Umatilla police responded to a restraining order violation on Fifth Street. TUESDAY, MARCH 22 2:34 a.m. — Umatilla police responded to a 911 call reporting a domestic disturbance on Sixth Street. 5:20 a.m. — A 911 caller on East Van Buren Street in Athena reported someone was trespass- ing on private property. Uma- tilla County sheriff ’s deputies responded. 7:03 a.m. — A caller reported graffi ti at North Broad and East Pomeroy streets in Weston. 8:58 a.m. — Umatilla County sheriff ’s deputies responded to South State Street, Weston, after a 911 call reporting a domestic disturbance. 9:41 a.m. — A caller on Sev- enth Street, Umatilla, reported he was walking his dog on the walk- ing path by Umatilla High School and his gold/white English bull- dog, named “Kilo” got away from him. 2:56 p.m. — A caller on Cart- wright Avenue, Umatilla, reported she found a dog running loose. Umatilla police responded. 8:11 p.m. — Umatilla County sheriff ’s deputies responded to East Punkin Center Road in Herm- iston, after a 911 call reporting a verbal domestic disturbance. ARRESTS, CITATIONS March 22 • Oregon State Police arrested Brooke Margaret Elam, 38, for driv- ing while suspended/revoked and driving under the infl uence of intoxicants. Marian Woodhall Babcock March 6, 1926 - March 17, 2022 Marian Woodhall Babcock loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great- grandmother passed away at home, at age 96 on March 17, 2022. A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 28, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the Milton-Freewater Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 27 from 1-7 p.m. at the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home in Milton-Freewater. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital in care of the funeral home. Marian was born in College Place, Washington, to Katrina Elizabeth Kimball and Eldon Mark Woodhall. She was raised in Walla Walla, Washington, attended Sharpstein Elementary School and graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1943. At WaHi, she met James Chester Harris, and they were married in San Francisco, California, on April 7, 1944, after he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Upon his discharge they returned and made Milton-Freewater, Oregon, their home. They opened Harris Photography Studio, and raised three children. As a family, they spent many summer vacations on the Oregon coast, Priest Lake, Idaho, Glacier National Park, Wallowa Lake and visiting family in California. Camping and fishing were always on the agenda. Marian became a member of the Alpha Gamma Sorority, was a founding and active member of Christ the King Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the Loyalty Chapter of Eastern Star. During her Eastern Star membership, she held many local and state offices. She also headed up raising funds to provide college scholarships for local MacHi students. Marian was also an active member of the Daughters of the Nile and the American Historical Society of the Germans from Russia. After 38 years, she divorced and married Keith Babcock on Dec. 3, 1983. They continued to live in Milton-Freewater and enjoyed traveling to Hawaii and in the motorhome to Arizona, California and the Snake River Parks until his death in 1992. Those who preceded her in death were parents Betty and Eldon Woodhall; brother, Max Woodhall; son, Ronald Dean Harris; and husbands, James Harris and Keith Babcock. She is survived by daughter, Laury Kay Harris Johnson (Mark) of Arizona, Thomas James Harris of Milton-Freewater; four grandsons, Jayson (Tammy) Harris, David Harris all of Washington State, Matthew (Stephanie) Johnson of Utah, and Nathan (Marcy) Johnson of Iowa; four great-granddaughters and three great-grandsons, three great-great granddaughters and one great-great-grandson, and two step-daughters, Shari Bye (Stan) and Patty Lee both of Washington State. Marian loved the town of Milton-Freewater where she made her home for 75 years, and over the years made many friends. Many family members and friends have passed before her. She will now be greeted by and see again when that time comes. She was a loving mother who always had a calm word to say during any life storm. We love you Mom and will miss you until we meet again. Patricia ‘Pat’ Mann Hopper July 25, 1925 - March 3, 2022 Patricia Hopper, 96, of Adams, passed away on March 3, 2022. She was born in Pendleton, Oregon, on July 25, 1925, to Irvin and Faye Mann. She was raised in Adams, Oregon, and lived there most of her life. Patricia married Robert Hopper on September 14, 1946, in Walla Walla, Washington. Robert and Pat enjoyed farming and ranching their whole life. She was a great supporter of FFA and 4-H, she spent many years as a 4-H leader. She enjoyed family and had a great fondness for her nieces and nephews. Pat always had a house full of kids and maintained lifelong relationships with them. Pat loved to cook with a passion for baking and was well known for her pies. She is survived by daughter, Patsy Taylor; daughter, Susan Lyon; and numerous grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Spike of Hermiston was born July 24, 1943 in The Dalles, Oregon, the son of John Stephen and Nancy Ann (Holmes) Spike. He passed away at his home with his family by his side on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at the age of 78. Steve grew up and attended schools in Echo, graduating from Echo High School in the Class of 1961. He then attended Oregon State University and Oregon Health Sciences University School of Dentistry. After graduating from the school of dentistry, he returned to Eastern Oregon and began a dental practice in Hermiston in 1968. He worked at his practice for 43 years until retiring in 2011. Steve loved going deer and elk hunting in the Eagle Cap wilderness. He also enjoyed his many fishing trips for steelhead on the Deschutes River and marlin fishing in Los Barriles, Mexico. He enjoyed going clamming with his grandchildren at Netarts Bay on the Oregon coast. He was a man that loved the outdoors and a sports fan based on the season. He was a man of faith and attended St. John’s Episcopal Church in Hermiston. He enjoyed going to his kids and grandkids events and his five grandchildren were at the center of his heart and his pride and joy. Steve was known for his humility, kindness, generosity and zest for life. His family and friends were always entertained with his story-telling and “infinite” wisdom on many topics. Steve had a genuineness and tenderness about him that left an imprint on many. Steve married his high school sweetheart, Sherra Lynn Abel, on Feb. 18, 1967, in Hermiston, Oregon. They enjoyed a wonderful life together and were always by each other’s side. They were married for 55 years and built many memories within their home and beyond with family and friends. Steve is survived by his wife, Sherra; daughter, Tamry Sue Parzybok; son, Todd Stephen (Nicki) Spike; five grandchildren, Will, Addison, Mackenzie, Emma and Kadence; two sisters, Pam Gordon and Debbie McKee; and many extended family members and close friends. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law, Timothy Parzybok. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday April 2, 2022, at the New Hope Community Church, 1350 S. She was born on April 10, 1932, to Eva (Clark) Trimble and Jake Knaus. Marjorie grew up and attended schools in Walla Walla, Washington. She met and married Don Rakestraw in 1951. They later divorced in 1977. At the time of their marriage, they took in and raised her three younger siblings, Shirley, Terry and Mike Knaus. In 1953, they had one child, Dennis Rakestraw. She worked at several jobs, including Smith's Frozen Foods, the Bon Marche and later went to work for the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a product inspector. She retired from the USDA in 1997. Marjorie was a member of the First Christian Church in Milton-Freewater, Oregon. She enjoyed spending time with family, friends and neighbors. She especially loved spoiling her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She also had a special place in her heart for animals. There was not a person or animal that she wouldn’t help. She was such a giving person. She is survived by her son, Dennis (Sharrall) Rakestraw; five grandchildren, Bryan, Travis, Ashley, Kyle Rakestraw and Christopher Welch; six great- grandchildren, Haylee, Rylie, Makenna, Wyatt, Blakely and Parker Rakestraw; one great-great-grandson, Kaiden Parra; two younger sisters, Esther Schreiber and Shirley (Art) Adams; two younger brothers, Terry (Barbara) Knaus and Mike (Diane) Knaus; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Marie Knaus; a brother, Jack Knaus; brother-in-law, Wayne Schreiber; and a grandson, Brandon Rakestraw. Wally Hartsteen March 28, 1955 - March 17, 2022 Wally Hartsteen of Echo was born in Djakarta, Indonesia on March 28, 1955, the son of Fred and Francesca Hartsteen. He passed away at his home in Echo surrounded by his family on March 17, 2022, at the age of 66. Wally moved with his family from Indonesia to Holland when he was 3 years old. When he was 7 in 1962, his family moved from Holland to Hermiston, Oregon. He attended schools in Hermiston and graduated from Hermiston High School in the Class of 1974.While in high school, he played football, basketball and track. He then served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Wally worked for nearly 30 years as a manager and outside salesman in the Welding Supply Industry, going on to retire from Northwest Farm Supply. Wally was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His family and his church were the focus of his life. He also enjoyed going fishing whenever the opportunity would arise. Wally married Darla Jean Cook on Nov. 26, 1977, in the Salt Lake City Temple. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Darla; daughters, Amanda Hartsteen and Ashlee (Justin) Clark; sons, Nychal (Nichole) Hartsteen and Tyler Hartsteen; seven grandchildren; four sisters, Arditza de Groot, Ruby O’Dell, Gail Miller and Tessa Campos; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Reginald; and granddaughter, Kalani.
