THURSDAY, MARCH 10 12:16 a.m. — Pendleton police responded to a report of a restraining order violation on Northeast Riverside Avenue. An offi cer took a report. 6:30 a.m. — Hermiston police responded to a 911 call for a domestic disturbance on the 200 block of Southwest Sixth Street. 9:10 a.m. — Umatilla County sheriff ’s deputies responded to a theft complaint at Ranch and Home, 85342 Highway 11, Milton-Freewater, and took a report. 1:23 p.m. — An offi cer initiated activity at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1151 N. Elizabeth St., Milton-Freewater, after reports of doors opening and closing at the church when no one was to be on the premises. 2:03 p.m. — An Irrigon resident asked the Morrow County Sheriff ’s Saturday, March 12, 2022 DEATH NOTICES Offi ce to check on a package that was coming to her home while she was not there. A deputy checked and told the caller the package was in the mailbox. 11:37 p.m. — A resident at Port View Apartments, 320 Columbia Ave. N.E., Boardman, reported someone was trying to break into her apart- ment. Boardman police responded and found people went to the wrong door. FRIDAY, MARCH 11 12:35 a.m. — A 911 caller at Northwest Second Street and Alder Place in Pilot Rock reported a white Jeep was swerving over the lines on the road. 2:09 a.m. — A 911 caller reported their fi ance was chasing them out of the orchards on Prunedale Road in Milton-Freewater, in a gray four-door sedan. Law enforcement responded. ARRESTS, CITATIONS March 10 • Pendleton police arrested Erik Estrada, 42, for second-degree disor- derly conduct and two counts of felon in possession of a weapon. March 11 • Milton-Freewater police arrested Felix Romero, 26, of Milton-Free- water, for fi rst-degree criminal trespass, fi rst-degree burglary, harassment and felony strangulation. Milton-Freewater police reported the arrest was due to an incident that occurred Dec. 5, when Romero entered the apartment of a 23-year- old woman he knew and strangled her in front of their 5-year-old child. Police reported an arrest that was not possible at that time. But on March 11, police responded to the victim’s apartment on a call that she suspected the person ringing her doorbell was Romero. Mil- ton-Freewater police reported offi cers found Romero there and arrested him without incident. George died March 4, 2022, in Spokane, Washington. He was born June 19, 1926, in The Dalles to Howard and Mildred (Clark) George. He was raised in Cloverdale, Stayton and Bend where he met his wife, Joy. He served in the Navy during WWII. After the war, he attended Oregon State University and graduated with a degree in forestry. He was employed by the US Forest Service in Crescent, Sisters and settling in Pendleton as a deputy supervisor. He retired after 36 years. Gordon was an avid fly fisherman. He enjoyed hunting, camping and the outdoors. He shared these passions with his children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. He was an active member of the Pendleton Rotary for more than 50 years and served his community in other capacities. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joy, and granddaughter, Katie. Survivors include his children, Phil, Cindy and Steve; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A private memorial will be scheduled for a later date. Tassie of Hermiston, Oregon, was born on July 19, 1966, in Hermiston, Oregon, to parents Ralph and Faye Corum Tassie. He died on March 7, 2022, in Hermiston, Oregon, at the age of 55 years. Scott was raised and attended schools in Hermiston, Oregon, graduating from Hermiston High School in the class of 1984. At the age of 19, he owned and operated the Hermiston Texaco Station on Hermiston Avenue before going to work with his dad at Desert Security. He later owned and operated Desert Security for several years. Scott went to work as a dispatcher for Umatilla County on June 1, 1999. He proudly dedicated his life to service to Umatilla County for over 22 years until the time of his passing as a sergeant in the Communications Division. Scott was united in marriage to Kerry Kasper on June 2, 2015, in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho. He had been a member of the Hermiston Eagles Lodge No. 2909. Scott was an avid Seattle Seahawks fan, Mariners fan, Tri-City Americans fan and enjoyed going to watch the Seattle Kraken hockey team play in both Seattle and Las Vegas. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards, occasional projects around the house and loved husky and German shepherd dogs. He is survived by his beloved wife, Kerry Tassie, Hermiston, Oregon; mother, Faye Hamman, and her husband, Mike, Hermiston, Oregon; stepdaughters, Stephanie Kasper and Kristina Kasper, both of Hermiston, Oregon; and Jessica (Martin) Hayden, and her husband, Troy, Gresham, Oregon; brothers, Kevin Tassie, and wife, June, Hermiston, Oregon; and Rick Tassie, and wife, Dana, Hermiston, Oregon; nieces, Krissy Cunningham and Nicole (Blake) Graham; nephew, Matt Tassie; great nephews, Axel and Wyatt Tassie; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Although Scott did not have children of his own, he was a loving and strong father figure to many that needed him throughout his life. Scott was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Tassie. Emma Maxine Haines, 90, of Pendleton died Friday, March 4, 2022, at St. Anthony Hospital. She was born May 7, 1931, near Enterprise, Oregon, to Clarence and Opal Rucker. Maxine grew up in Wallowa and Umatilla County attending school in Lostine, Oregon, La Grande, Oregon, and Troutdale, Oregon, graduating from La Grande High School. Maxine moved to Pendleton in 1950 and also lived in Pasco, Washington, and Seaside, Oregon. She enjoyed being a wife and mother, and she owned and worked in a café, was a school cook and worked at a furniture factory. Maxine was married to Robert Schuening and William Haines. She enjoyed spending her time with many different organizations, her church family from the Free Methodist Church, and the Eagles Lodge, VFW, Dirt Dabblers Club and the Travel Club. She also enjoyed walking, snowmobiling, four-wheeling, dancing, gardening and most of all spending time with her family. She is survived by her sons, Ed Schuening of Hermiston, Oregon; Ivan Schuening of Aurora, Oregon; daughter, Marthella Adams of Pendleton, and stepdaughters, Charlene Pon of Portland, Oregon; Kathy Culley of Portland, Oregon; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Bob Schuening and William Haines; son, Richard Schuening; stepson, Bill Haines; and brother, Tom Rucker.
