Shooting suspect in jail

BOARDMAN — The
suspect in the deadly shoot-
ing Wednesday, March 9, in
northern Morrow County is
behind bars.
The Morrow County Sher-
iff ’s Offi ce announced Caleb
Marion Beehler, 39, of Board-
man, was taken into custody
Thursday evening, March 10,
without incident and booked
into the Umatilla County Jail,
Pendleton.
The jail gives the booking
date and time as March 10,
9:35 p.m.
“We would like to thank
the good citizens of Morrow
and Umatilla counties for
their concern and informa-

the sheriff ’s offi ce Facebook
page. “MCSO would also like
to extend our thanks to Herm-

Umatilla County Sheriff’s
Offi ce for their assistance.”
The post did not provide
details of Beehler’s arrest.
The Morrow County
Sheriff ’s Offi ce Communi-
cation Center at 6:31 p.m.
March 9 received a 911 call
from a woman in the Board-
man area, according to a
press release from the sher-
iff ’s offi ce, reporting a family
altercation and that she heard
a gunshot.
Law enforcement person-
nel from the sheriff ’s offi ce
and the Boardman Police
Department immediately

Morrow County District

The sheriff ’s off ice
reported it was looking for
Beehler, who left the scene
in the family’s red Chevrolet
Cavalier and was “considered
armed and dangerous.”
State cour t records
show Beehler has numer-
ous convictions in Umatilla
County starting in 2009 for
traffi c and hunting violations,
and has an ongoing hit-and-
run case in Morrow County
Circuit Court that began in
October 2021.

IRRIGON — Fire offi cials do not know
the cause of a fire late Monday night,
March 7, that destroyed a mobile home in
Irrigon.
Mike Hughes, Boardman Fire Rescue
District chief, said when firefighters
arrived they found the fi re to be “fully
involved,” meaning the fi re and smoke
were so great fi refi ghters could not enter
the structure until water was placed on it.
According to the chief, the fi re was
threatening three other structures.
“Irrigon Fire and Boardman Fire basi-
cally surrounded the fully involved struc-
ture and protected the other ones from

igniting,” he said.
He added that Umatilla Rural Fire
Protection District also helped put “a good
stop” on the fi re and prevented it from
torching other structures.
“There were no civilian injuries or fi re-
fi ghter injuries,” the chief said, but the
mobile home was “fully destroyed.”
Hughes and Deputy State Fire Marshal
Casey Kump said they do not know the
cause of the fi re. Kump said there was
an investigation in which experts were
brought in to determine a cause. They did
not, Kump said, fi nd any reason to think it
was arson that started the blaze.
There was not insurance covering the
property, Kump said, so his offi ce will not
investigate the fi re any further.
