Barry Charles Beyeler June 10, 1956 – February 15, 2022 Barry Beyeler was born in Nor- folk, Nebraska, June 10, 1956. He grew up mostly in Nebraska and Colorado, but moved frequently as his father pursued his career. Bar- ry always desired a place to plant his roots — to call a home — and a community to be a part of. In 1978, Boardman, Oregon, became that place. Then in December 1980, Jim Thompson, city manager, hired Barry as a backhoe op- erator for the city Public Works Department. Five city managers, 13 mayors, numerous city councils and 42 years later, he was still serving the city of Boardman as the community development director. Karen Pettigrew, current city manager, said she knew Barry all those years to be “a faithful, dedicated employee of the city of Boardman.” During his tenure, Barry served not only his community, but the state of Oregon as well. He was a long time member of the American Water Works Association and League of Oregon Cities. He served as a volunteer for the Oregon Hanford Clean- up Board (2005-2008). In 2008, Barry was appointed to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Hanford Advisory Board. From 2010-2019, he was in the service of the Energy Facilities Siting Council (EFSC) during which he was appointed vice chair (2013-2015) and chair (2015-2019) by the governor of the state of Oregon. Todd Cornett, assistant director of siting at Oregon De- partment of Energy wrote he worked closely with Barry on EFSC and will miss him greatly. “Even after his time on EFSC, I spoke with him at least monthly.” What Barry loved most about living in Boardman was being part of a community that was like family. Over the years he participated in all things “community” from being on the volunteer EMT and fire departments to numerous public events, especially Fourth of July. Lynn Prag, co-publisher of the North Morrow County Times, wrote, “Barry was involved in everything to do with improving life in Boardman, and he was always smiling and so cheerful about it. He enjoyed small town life, from playing softball to a front-row seat at Music in the Park. He was so enthusiastic about everything, and we will miss him.” Barry could often be found at high school sporting events, even after his daughter’s graduation in 1995. Barry was a caring, stubborn, compassionate and political man with a deep love of country, community, nature and family. He enjoyed many hobbies — sports fan, poet, amateur geologist, singer, historian and so many others. His greatest love was being a father to Brandy and grandfather to Tyler. Barry Charles Beyeler passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Brandy and Jerod Alexander, grandson, Tyler Alexander, stepmother, Beverly Beyeler, brother and sister-in-law, Craig and Lori Beyeler, sister, Malia Beyeler, stepsister and brother-in-law, Suzy and Mike Johnson, stepsister, Luanne Smith, and multiple nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce (Jorgensen) Beyeler, father, Robert Beyeler, and sister-in-law, Charlotte. A public service is to be scheduled for April 2022 with date, time and location to be provided separate- ly. In lieu of flowers or cards, donations can be made to one of the following: the Barry Beyeler Memorial Fund c/o Brandy Alexander at any Banner Bank loca- tion, any organization supporting military members and their families, and/or a donation of blood to the Amer- ican Red Cross.
