TUESDAY, FEB. 22 8:22 a.m. — A caller reported there is a husky running loose on John Day Street in Umatilla. 9:02 a.m. — The Morrow County Sheriff ’s Offi ce received a request from the Oregon Humane Society, Portland, to check on a premises on Gun Club Lane in Hermiston, after it received a report that two dogs were buried there and rabbits and guinea pigs were left outside and died due to the weather. Someone even sent pho- tos of dead rabbits in cages to the Oregon Humane Society. Depu- ties determined this was unfounded. 9:14 a.m. — A caller reported that someone broke into his vehi- cle and stole his wallet at Tri-Harbor Landing Apartments, 210 Klick- itat St., Umatilla. 10:30 a.m. — Stanfi eld police responded to West Page Avenue after a caller reported witnessing someone in the park threatening to stab another person. 11:54 a.m. — A caller made a report of graffi ti at Brittany Farm- ing Company, 1116 N. Feb. 22 • Oregon State Police arrested Rebecca Jean Dickard, 46, for driv- ing under the infl uence of intoxicants and reckless driving. Nathan Charles Burton June 3, 1983 - February, 2022 Nathan Charles Burton was born June 3, 1983, in Walla Walla, Washington, at Walla Walla Gen- eral Hospital. He passed away re- cently at age 38. He served in the Army from 2002-2008. He had two tours of duty in Iraq and one in South Ko- rea. His basic training was at Fort Benning, Georgia, his grandmother who was living in Alabama was able to see him grad- uate. Nathan is survived by his parents, Tom and Clara Burton, and siblings, David Burton, Phoenix, Rachel Luke, Pendleton, Ira, James and Michael, Pendleton, Sara Channer, Chicago, Amos, Heppner, Kenneth San- chez, Seattle, and son, Xavier Burton, Pendleton. Nathan had a pleasant personality. He enjoyed our family vacation trips to Yellowstone, Disney World and visits to see relatives in Alabama. He and brother, Amos, listened to “Adventures in Odyssey” so many times that they memorized them and could apply them to conversations where ever we were. Memorial service will be held at the Pendleton Bap- tist Church, 3202 SW Nye Ave., Pendleton on Saturday, Feb. 26, at 11:00 a.m. Dennis Dean Schultz December 17, 1940 - February 17, 2022 Gordon Merrill Briggs Jr. Myrtle Agnes McMillan March 6, 1962 - February 16, 2022 December 20, 1937 - February 14, 2022 Gordon Merrill Briggs Jr. was born on March 6, 1962, in Pend- leton, Oregon, to parents Gordon and Betty Green Briggs. He passed away on Feb. 16, 2022, at the age of 59 years old. Gordon graduated from Pendle- ton High School and Rogue Com- munity College. In 1997, Gordon moved to Arizona to help his father build a self-sustaining home. After a year, his heart called him back to the trees and mountains and he returned to Pendleton. Gordon worked as a maintenance worker for many years until 2016 when he retired due to a disabili- ty. In 2017, he moved to Hermiston, Oregon, and made his home at Guardian Angel Homes until his death. Gordon was an extremely kind, loving, gentle and peaceful person who lived each day with love in his heart and a love for Jesus. He was a 49ers fan, and loved mochas, apple pie and pizza. He loved to ride motor- cycles and enjoyed fishing very much. He did a lot of hunting in his earlier years. Gordon was a brother and uncle. He loved his nieces and nephews and cherished photos of them from their travels and everyday life. Gordon is survived by his siblings, Denise Harman, Kimberly Ables and Gary Briggs. He is preceded in death by his parents. Myrtle Agnes McMillan, 84, of Lexington died, Feb. 14, 2022, in Heppner. A memorial graveside service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022, at 2 p.m. at the Lex- ington Penland Cemetery, Lexing- ton. She was born Dec. 20, 1937, at Geddes, South Dakota, to Hen- ry and Audrey McCarl. At the age of 1, her family moved to Harrisburg, Oregon. After graduating from Harrisburg High School, she moved to Heppner where she worked at Pioneer Memorial Hos- pital as a nurse aide. Myrtle met her husband, Scott “Denny” McMillan, in Lexington. The couple built a house on the family wheat ranch, where they raised two children. Myrtle worked for many years cleaning houses, and after retirement she volunteered at the Neighborhood Center in Heppner. One of her greatest joys was spend- ing time with family and friends. She is survived by her children, Kenzie McMillan of Lexington and Marion (Meredith) McMillan of Lake- land, Florida, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchil- dren, a brother, Morris (Shirley) McCarl of Lexington, and countless nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, and brothers, Myron McCarl and Mervin McCarl. Denny was born Dec. 17, 1940, in McMinn- ville, Oregon, to Herman Theodore Schultz and Myrtle Edith New- comb Schultz Linder. Shortly after graduating Hermiston High School in 1959, he joined the U.S. Army and served two years. Denny was united in marriage to Jaunita Wagner on May 20, 1961, in Hermiston, Or- egon. He worked for the Gypsum plant in Pilot Rock, Ore- gon, before becoming a policeman for the city of Herm- iston and was there for 27-1/2 years when he retired as sergeant. Denny retired at 50 years young and traveled, hunt- ed, camped and mostly fished the rest of his life. Keep- ing a notebook documenting 300-plus days annually spent in the mountains, fishing and camping. Even spending his last year of life camping at his son Mike’s mountain “ranch” as he called it, appointing himself the "ranch foreman.” He is survived by his son, Michael Jay Schultz and his wife, Priscilla, of Adams, Oregon; his brother, Terry (Butch) Schultz and wife, Debbie, of Umatilla, Oregon, and numerous nieces and nephews. Denny was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 60 years, Jaunita Schultz; two daughters, Sylvia and Patti Schultz; and his sister, Betty Jean (Sue) Helms.
