Main St., Stanfi eld. 12:47 p.m. — A woman came to the Hermiston Police Depart- ment and reported she stopped at a red light, and the driver behind her waved her to the roadside to talk and claimed their cars had a collision when they had not. The woman said she would not provide information to the other driver, who threatened to call police. 1:49 p.m. — Umatilla County sheriff ’s deputies responded to a 911 call reporting trespassing on East College Avenue, Athena. A man was on the caller’s porch and refused to leave. The caller stated the man used to live there but does not anymore. 1:52 p.m. — A resident on the 400 block of Northwest Fifth Street, Pendleton, reported a burglary. Police responded and took a report. 3:30 p.m. — An Irrigon resident reported the neighbor’s dogs at Southeast Idaho Avenue and Crimson Court always bark and one of them chased her daughter. She said she ran out and chased off the dog. 3:50 p.m. — Bank of Eastern Oregon, Irrigon, reported someone is using a bank card that belonged to a person who died. 4:46 p.m. — A 911 caller reported a car crash near the intersection of Stateline Road and Highway 11 in Milton-Freewater. Law enforce- ment responded. 5:59 p.m. — Pendleton police received a report from the Oregon Department of Human Services, 700 S.E. Emigrant Ave., of the theft of a phone from the home of a foster family. The caller said they tracked the phone to the DHS building and juveniles are on the scene. 6:56 p.m. — A 911 caller reported trespassers at West County Alternative School on West Coe Avenue in Stanfi eld. Police responded to fi nd the building boarded up, power off and transients inside claiming they are renting it. 7:31 p.m. — A resident on Juniper Drive, Boardman, reported two vehicles crashed near her house. THURSDAY, FEB. 10 2:49 a.m. — A caller reported a dead dog near the intersection of Westland and Powerline roads in Hermiston on the north side in the gravel. 6:09 a.m. — Hermiston police responded to the 200 block of East August 12, 1940 - January 30, 2022 www.EastOregonian.com Geraldine Rae “Gerry” (Hol- zapfel) Carroll was born on Aug. 12, 1940, to Gail and Georgia (McPherson) Holzapfel in The Dalles, Oregon. On Sunday, Jan. 30, 2022, she lost her last battle with cancer in her home, surround- ed by her family at the age of 81. She grew up in The Dalles and as a youngster danced for the Elea- nor Borg Tap Dancing Studio. Gerry and her partner, Eddie Hamilton, entertained lodges and events around the area. When Gerry was a junior she moved to Sher- man County and graduated from “The New Sherman County High School” in the class of 1958. In July 1959, she married her childhood sweetheart, Dwayne Carroll, who was serving in the United States Air Force. Upon his honorable discharge, they purchased a section of land in the Ordnance/Hermiston area and put in some of the very first circle irrigation in Eastern Oregon. In 1965, their daughter, Jeanne, was born, followed close- ly by their son, Larry, in 1966. Both kids graduated from Riverside High School in Boardman and went on to graduate from BMCC in Pendleton. Gerry’s greatest pleasure in life was caring for her husband and family. Her dreams came true when her son, Larry, and daughter-in-law, Vickee, started farming the ranch in Hermiston and her daughter, Jeanne, and son-in-law, Joe, started farming her childhood ranch in Sherman County. She truly was, one of a kind. Her generous, kind nature and positive attitude helped her to battle cancer multiple times starting in her mid twenties. She never felt sorry for herself, was always more concerned with the problems of others and was always there to help when there was a need. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dwayne; daughter, Jeanne, and husband, Joe Dabulskis, Sherman County; son, Larry and wife, Vickee Carroll, Hermiston; grandchildren, Julie and husband, Alex Devlaeminck, Sherman County, Tyler Carroll and wife, Tessa, Hermiston, Mic Dabulskis, Sherman County and Amy Dabulskis, The Dalles; three great-grandchildren, Aiden, Kinsley and Remy. Gerry was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Matthew Dwayne Carroll. A celebration of life gathering will be announced at a later date. Donald Jackson left this Earth on Feb. 4, 2022, following a lengthy illness. He was born May 25, 1939, in Dill City, Oklahoma, the seventh of eight children born to Irvin and Lila Jackson (Van Vranken). He served four years active duty in the U.S. Army, was stationed in France, followed by 19 years with the Army National Guard. He retired in 1994, with the rank of captain, from the Oregon Department of Corrections, after 25 years of employment. During his career with ODOC, Don was known in several Northwest states as the premier staff trainer for those choosing careers in this often misun- derstood profession. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sharon Jack- son (Rogers); daughters, Donyale Jackson, husband, Troy Smart, Donna Frambers; son, Brad Jackson, wife, Shanon; sister, Erma Youngblood; bonus children, Chuck Sander, Angi Gallino, husband, James, Geni Parrish, Tami Sampson, husband, Tom, and Dan Bil- low, wife, Krista, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cindy, his parents, brothers Eugene, Les, Virgil and Carroll, sisters, Verna Powell and Olma Rider, grandsons, Ca- leb Wright and Nelson Pickett Jr., and granddaughter, Lacee Gallino. Services are scheduled for Feb. 18, at St. Mary’s Church in Pendleton, Oregon, at 11 a.m., and Rosary at Burns Mortuary in Pendleton at 7 p.m. on Feb. 17. Following the funeral services and inurnment, on Feb. 18, a celebration of life will be held at the Roy Raley Room, Pendleton Round-Up Grounds. Friends and family will remember Don as an active, charismatic man who loved to push himself to the limit, especially in his lifelong passion for running. For sever- al years, he was a proud participant in the annual Hood to the Coast run, where he made lifelong friends among fellow participants. If you knew Don during his years in Pendleton, you probably remember seeing him jogging every day in snow, ice, rain and summer heat. Following their retirements from Oregon Depart- ment of Corrections, Don and Sharon spent years trav- eling in their RV with their beloved yorkies, Gatsby and Dais, visiting many of the country’s beautiful states, making new friends and visiting family in other states. The caller reported the child of the couple involved in the dis- turbance ran to his house because their parents were fi ghting. 1:03 p.m. — Police responded to a call reporting a stalking com- plaint on West Highland Avenue in Hermiston. 4:17 p.m. — A Milton-Freewater resident on the 800 block of Per- kins Street reported the theft of a 9-mm gun sometime within the last three weeks. 4:27 p.m. — Umatilla County sheriff ’s deputies again responded to a 911 call about a man trespassing on a porch on East College Ave- nue, Athena. 4:46 p.m. — A caller on First Street Northwest, Boardman, reported a 7-year-old boy fell from his bicycle and hit his head on the concrete. 6:18 p.m. — Hermiston police responded to the 1100 block of South Highway 395 on a report of a burglary. 6:28 p.m. — A resident on Southeast Matlock Street, Heppner, called 911 regarding an issue with a neighbor. A Morrow County sher- iff ’s deputy responded and found this was a dispute over parking. 10 p.m. — A caller asked the Morrow County Sheriff ’s Offi ce to check on illegal burning at Washington Lane and Snyder Road, Irrigon. Pettey It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our broth- er Ed Sander. He has been living in Boardman, Oregon, and working at the local Tillamook County Cream- ery operation, Columbia River Processing. He passed away at his home on Jan. 28, 2022. Ed grew up in Tillamook attending Sacred Heart Grade School and Tillamook High School. Upon graduating, he started working at the Tillamook Cheese Plant, eventually transferring to Boardman when they expanded operations. Ed was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting in Eastern Oregon, and an occasional moose trip to Canada. He also enjoyed traveling to many countries while on vacation. Ed had one rule in his life that was nonnegotiable for family, friends or acquaintances and it was “you may call me Ed, or Edward, but don’t call me Eddie.” Ed was born Nov. 28, 1960, in Tillamook, Oregon, and was the son of Al and Arlene Sander. He is survived by three sisters, Joan Trapp (Ken), of Happy Valley, Oregon, Irene Willison, of Forest Grove, Oregon, and Dot Sander-Ziegler (John), of Renton, Washington. His six surviving brothers include Louis Sander (Carol), of Salem, Oregon, Leo Sander, of Tigard, Oregon, Rock Sander (Christy), of Silverton, Oregon, Ray Sander (Jo- anne), of Martinez, California, Bernie Sander, of Tilla- mook, Oregon, and Robert Sander (Melani), of Rocka- way Beach, Oregon. Ed is also survived by 11 nieces, five nephews, six great-nieces and 11 great-nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Al and Ar- lene Sander, who owned Sander Dairy on Sollie Smith Road, and an infant sister, Mary Agnes Sander. Three memorial services to celebrate Ed’s life are scheduled. The first is Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022, at Smi- ley’s Happy Place, 102 Boardman Ave. NW, Boardman, Oregon, at 1:00 p.m. The second is Thursday, March 3, 2022, in Boardman, Oregon, in the Riverfront Room at Port of Morrow, 2 Marine Drive, from 4-7 p.m. The third service is on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at the Tillamook Sacred Heart Cemetery gravesite, located on Cemetery Road in Port of Tillamook Bay, at 11 a.m. The graveside service is followed by a luncheon at Alderbrook Hall, 5995 Alderbrook Road, Tillamook, Oregon.
