Gregory Brennan Breuner
December 31, 1936 - January 21, 2022
Gregory Breuner passed away
peacefully in her home on Friday,
Jan. 21, 2022, from complications
of Alzheimer’s.
Gregory grew up in Pendleton,
Oregon, the daughter of Creagh
and Joseph Brennan, and sister to
Creagh Brennan Hawes and Pat
Brennan. She attended the Uni-
versity of Wisconsin, majoring in
Home Economics. In 1976, she
earned a master’s degree in Educa-
tion in Consumer Economics from
Oregon State, and she later studied
economics at Portland State.
Gregory met Rick in seventh
grade in Pendleton. Gregory liked
going to Rick’s middle school bas-
ketball games, and they went on
a roller skating date before Rick
moved to Eugene after eighth grade. Six years later,
they met by chance on the train from Oregon as Grego-
ry headed to the University of Wisconsin and Rick was
on his way to Notre Dame. Just after college, Grego-
ry was a buyer at the San Francisco Emporium. Rick
worked in Eugene, and courted her in San Francisco.
They were married March 19, 1960, just before Rick
started two years serving as an officer in the U.S. Navy
in Iwakuni, Japan. On their return to the U.S., Rick
completed his MBA at Wharton, and they moved from
Vancouver (Camas), Washington, to Carthage, New
York, to Burlingame, California, and finally to Lake Os-
wego, Oregon. In 1999, they moved from Lake Oswego
to West Linn.
Gregory was an educator on so many levels. She
taught kindergarten in Pendleton, Oregon, before get-
ting married, and established a kindergarten on the na-
val air base in Iwakuni, Japan. She completed her MS
in Consumer Economics at Oregon State and in 1972
joined the staff at Lakeridge High School, teaching eco-
nomics, personal finance and then social studies. After
retiring from Lakeridge, she worked as an adviser and
mentor to graduate students in the Master’s of Educa-
tion program at Lewis and Clark College.
After retiring from Lewis and Clark, Gregory served
as a volunteer at the Lake Oswego Public Library, dig-
itizing local records for a public database. In addition,
she took gardening classes, eventually becoming a
Master Gardener and sharing her knowledge and en-
thusiasm at the Lake Oswego Saturday Market Master
Gardeners table.
Throughout her life, Gregory loved people, music
and creative endeavors. She painted and sewed her
entire life, and took up quilting in her 50s. She made
quilts, wall hangings, bags and placemats for friends
and the whole family, and enjoyed taking on creative
projects with her beloved Sew & Sews group.
Gregory is survived by her husband, Rick Breun-
er; their children, Joe Breuner, Mary Breuner Siegrist,
Andrea Breuner and Creagh Breuner, and by her eight
grandchildren.
Gregory lived her life with a lot of spirit, an incred-
ible force of will, kindness, a strong work ethic and
a dedication to service. She was always ready to put
herself forward and engage with friends and those she
newly met. She raised her children to be independent
and to work hard at any endeavor they undertake.
There will be a service to celebrate Gregory’s life at
the Resurrection Catholic Parish in Tualatin, Oregon,
on Saturday, Feb. 12, at 1:30 p.m., with a gathering fol-
lowing the mass in the church hall. To view a livestream
of the service as it is happening, click the parish Face-
book page.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation
in Gregory’s name to The Alzheimer’s Association or to
that association’s The Longest Day program.
