Swanson August 10, 1930 - December 21, 2021 The world lost a quiet, gen- tle, kind man on December 21. A man who never said a harsh word to, or about, anybody in all of his 91 years. Chuck was a tremendous teacher, respected by his peers for his good nature and his common sense approach at solving prob- lems. He always had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. In his later years he loved giving, and especially receiving, hugs. He loved anything mechanical and would never consider walking if there was any kind of wheeled transportation available. Energetic to a fault, he was always inventing new objects for his motorcycles or for the house, inside or outside. Chuck was born in Tacoma, Washington, on Aug. 10, 1930, to Wilbur Read and Blodwen Herlan Swanson. He graduated from WaHi in 1948 and worked as a line mechanic at the Lincoln Mercury garage, then served a two-year hitch in the Army at Fort Bliss, Texas. Af- ter that his good friend Roger Duckworth and he were roommates in a very old and drafty trailer while both attended Washington State College. Chuck graduated in 1958 with an industrial arts major. After graduation he was hired by a close friend, Ben Hunt Jr., as the sales manager for Ben’s business that made the infamous Ben Hunt Bumper for pickups. Chuck and Ben designed and manufactured other products: the Caper Cycle and the Caper Cart. Together with a team of friends they raced both products all around the Northwest, winning many trophies. Then he met Dyann, who was his secretary at Ben Hunt Mfg. That was the start of a 59-year marriage that began on July 29, 1962. They raised two children, Susan Kay Tanski (husband, Craig) and a son, Eric Lynn. In 1963 Chuck was hired by PABATCO, an import/ex- port company in Athena, Oregon. which imported the Yamaguchi motorcycle. Another friend, Henry Koep- ke, who worked at PABATCO, told Chuck that Amer- ica needed a better trail bike to ride and that he needed Chuck to work with him and others to design and build that bike. Soon the Hodaka motorcycle was born. After 16 years of success, the economy and the recession took its toll and the Hodaka ceased manufacture. After that came a few years of working for Jim Smith at Com- petition Motors in Walla Walla. In 1985 he and Dyann purchased PACIFICO, a company located in Gresham, Oregon, which manufactured motorcycle accessories. They moved the company to Milton-Freewater, Ore- gon, and ran it for 15 years until Chuck retired in 2000. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; his step- mother, Bernice; and his brother, Ron. He is survived by his wife, Dyann; his two children, Susan and Eric; and his brothers, Mel (wife, Nori), Dick (wife, Sharon) and Alan (wife, Dawna); sister-in-law, Sandi; many grand- children and great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. A celebration of life is planned for Hodaka Days in June 2022. Date and time to be announced. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzhei- mer’s Association or the Gem Theater/Hodaka Museum in Athena, Oregon 97813. To leave a condolence online visit www.munsellerhodes.com. David Lou “Moke” Cummings Charles Randall “Randy” Bohanan June 18, 1950 – January 4, 2022 Charles Randall “Randy” Bo- hanan, age 71, of Irrigon, Oregon, passed away peacefully in his home on Jan. 4, 2022, after a long battle with cancer. Randy was born June 18, 1950, in Salinas, California, to Charles and Margrett (Dunson) Bohanan. He grew up in Califor- nia’s Central Coast region where he enjoyed life’s adventures and innocent mischief. Randy loved the water and enjoyed spending time surfing. After graduating Atascadero High School in 1969, Randy joined the US Marine Corp, where he was sta- tioned in Yuma, Arizona, and served time oversees in Japan. Randy was honorably discharged in 1972. Upon discharge from the Marine Corps, Randy settled in Ya- kima, Washington, where he married Marilyn Coker in 1973. Here they raised their daughter. Cindy, who was the center of their lives. Randy worked for the US Post- al Service in Yakima, where he retired in 2005, after 30 years of service. Upon retirement, Randy moved to Irrigon, Oregon, where he lived for the past 16 years. While in Irrigon, Randy became actively involved in the Christian Mo- torcyclists Association. It was during this time, that he gave his life fully to serving the Lord, going public with his faith when he was baptized in the Columbia Riv- er. Randy served as the CMA Chapter president for sev- eral years, up until the last months of his life. Randy was known as a free spirit and a wanderer who enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson wherever it might take him. One of his daughter’s most cherished memories was the two-week motorcycle trip with her father down the coast highway after her high school graduation. He had a laugh that could fill a room, a servant’s heart and didn’t know a stranger. He enjoyed woodworking and was a sports enthusiast. He loved to watch his daughter play sports while she was grow- ing up and coached recreational softball in Yakima for many years. Above all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters, whom he was so proud of. Dad, as you enter into the gates of heaven, may you be met by all those loved ones that came before you for a joyous reunion. May you tour the streets of gold on a beautiful Harley and hear the Lord say, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” Randy was preceded in death by his love, Marilyn Bohanan; father, Charles Ray Bohanan; brother, Ron Bohanan, and an infant daughter, Jennifer Bohanan. He is survived by his daughter, Cindy and her hus- band Shawn Belton; granddaughters, Shannon and Sier- ra Belton; mother, Margrett Bohanan; sisters, Kim and her husband Mike Rohrbach and Judith and her hus- band Ed Logan; and numerous extended family mem- bers, close friends and brothers and sisters in Christ. The family would like to extend a special thank you to his niece, Kimberly, who so beautifully cared for Randy with such love and compassion during his last year. A celebration of life, with military honors, will be held this spring. Details will be provided at a later date. Burns Mortuary, of Hermiston, is in care of arrange- ments. In lieu of flowers, family suggest memorial contribu- tions be made to Pioneer Memorial Hospice who pro- vided such loving care for Randy in his final days or to CMA Run for the Son (www.cmausa.org), a charity to Randy’s heart.
