WEDNESDAY, JAN. 12
2:15 a.m. — An Irrigon resident on
County Garden Road asked the Morrow
County Sheriff ’s Offi ce to send a deputy
to check on a female outside his house
because she may be intoxicated. A deputy
responded and gave the woman a ride to
the Irrigon Shell station.
8:29 a.m. — Hermiston police took a
report for minor in possession of alcohol or
tobacco on South First Street.
8:56 a.m. — Milton-Freewater police
received a complaint about graffi ti on the
800 block of Perkins Street. And a caller
at 1:32 p.m. reported graffi ti at Marie
Dorian Park, 82535 Couse Creek Road,
Milton-Freewater.
11:09 a.m. — A person wanted to speak
to a Pendleton police offi cer regarding a
domestic violence situation that occurred
in Arizona.
2:36 p.m. — A 911 caller reported a
vehicle crashed on West Highland Avenue,
Hermiston, the airbag deployed and a male
was walking around.
5:49 p.m. — Pilot Rock police received a
report of a fi ght at J & D’s Food Mart, 111
S.W. Birch St.
7:06 p.m. — A caller reported the theft
of a Bissell vacuum by a restroom on North
First Street, Hermiston. Police responded
and issued a citation in the matter.
7:22 p.m. — A caller reported recycled
wood was on fi re at the recycling center at

11:31 a.m. — A caller reported a theft
at McCormack Construction, 422 S.W. Sixth
St., Pendleton. Police took a report.
11:28 p.m. — A 911 caller complained
about noise at a residence at Pendleton
Square Apartments Phase II, 300 S.W. 28th
Drive, Pendleton.
SENTENCES
The following sentences were have
been fi led in Umatilla County Circuit
Court (interest, court costs and fees not
listed):
Clifton Cody Newbold, 25, of Weston,
pleaded guilty to 2021 charges of driving
under the infl uence of intoxicants and sec-
ond-degree criminal mischief; sentenced to
one-year suspension of driver’s license, 10
days incarceration in the Umatilla County
Jail, Pendleton, and a $2,000 fi ne.
Ricardo Reyes, 55, of Hermiston, pleaded
guilty to 2021 charges of DUII and recklessly
endangering another person; sentenced to
one-year suspension of driver’s license, 50
days in county jail, and two years probation,
including 100 hours of community service.

The following lawsuits have been fi led
in Umatilla County Circuit Court (interest,
court costs and fees not listed):
Jennifer Robin Merritt, of Pendleton,
vs. TZ Contractors LLC, of Pendleton, seeks
$2,480.50.
Mary Gutierrez, of Milton-Freewater, vs.
Rajael Antonio Garcia Muniz, of Milton-Free-
water; seeks $69,100.
There were no lawsuits of note during

Former Pendleton resident Tyson Ronald Clark, 39, of
Kennewick, died Dec. 6, 2021, in Kennewick. He was born
Nov. 25, 1982, in Chadron, Nebraska, the son of Kory and

Forest Service announces
fee-free days for 2022
PORTLAND — Martin Luther King,
Jr. Day, Monday, Jan. 17, is the fi rst recre-
ation fee-free day of 2022 on U.S. Forest
Service sites.
The fee waiver applies to most
Forest Service day-use recreation sites
in Oregon and Washington, including
many picnic areas, boat launches, trail-
heads and visitor centers, according to
a press release from the Forest Service.
Fees for camping, cabin rentals or other
permits still apply. Fees will continue to
be charged at recreation sites operated
by concessionaires unless the individual
manager chooses to participate.
Recreation fee-free days are an eff ort
to encourage people to get outside and
enjoy public lands. The rest of the fee-free
days for the year are:

National Public Lands Day, Sept. 24.
Veterans Day, Nov. 11.
The Forest Service also reminded
visitors to be prepared and cautious

Morrow County School District for the
10th consecutive year has received a

Dickey and Tremper LLP conducted the
audit, which the school board reviewed
at its meeting Jan. 10.
The audit found the district carried
a surplus of $475,343 due to additional
support from federal, state and local
grants, including COVID-19 grants,
according to the press release. The school
district also carried an employee retire-
ment reserve fund of almost $1.45 million
and did not spend any of the fund.
The district also repaid the voter-ap-
proved general obligation bond for capital
improvement from 2001.
Morrow County School District
Superintendent Dirk Dirksen in the
press release said consistently receiving
high marks for fi nancial accountabil-
ity is a credit to staff , the InterMoun-
tain Education Service District and the
school board.

Karen Lynn Wallsinger
January 21, 1962 – January 6, 2022
Karen Lynn Wallsinger of Uma-
tilla, Oregon, was born January
21, 1962 in Norfolk, Virginia the
daughter of Robert and Mary Ann
(Jongkindt) Walter. She passed
away in Hermiston, Oregon on
Thursday, January 6, 2022 at the
age of 59.
At the age of six, Karen moved
with her family to Ontario, CA
where she grew up and attended
schools. She completed her schooling at Montclair
High School where she was on the tall flag team in
nearby Montclair, CA. After high school, she moved
to Texas for a few years before returning to Califor-
nia. She moved to Eastern Oregon in the early 1990’s
where she has lived for the past thirty years. She lived
in Stanfield for several years before settling in Umatilla
in 2006. She worked as a final finisher for Keystone RV
in Pendleton for several years.
Karen had a love for animals, enjoyed being in the
outdoors and going hunting and fishing.
She is survived by her son, Nicholas Wallsing-
er; mother, Mary Ann Ashey; brother, Robert and
wife Tina Walter; life companion, Matthew Perkins;
step-daughter, Lillian Perkins.
A private family celebration of life will be held at a
later time. Burns Mortuary of Hermiston is in care of
arrangements.
Family suggest memorial donations in Karen’s
memory be sent to Pet Rescue-Humane Society of
Eastern Oregon.
