Johnie T. Collins
October 1, 1940 - December 20, 2021
Johnie T. Collins of
Medford, Oregon, died
on Monday December 20,
2021 at the age
of 81 following
a difficult three
week battle with
pneumonia.
Johnie is sur-
vived by the love
of his life and
wife of 62 years
Vicki
Collins
(Wilkie); three
children Kelly Collins
(wife Julie), Dara Col-
lins and Deborah Nork
(husband Stephen); Sis-
ter, Elsie Collins Riley
(husband James); thir-
teen grandchildren and
17 great-grandchildren
and numerous nieces and
nephews.
Johnie was born on Oc-
tober 1, 1940 in Pamona,
Kansas. He moved with
his family to Irrigon, Or-
egon in 1944, where he
spent his youth and then
graduated from Hermis-
ton High School in 1959.
He was an accomplished
athlete and participated
in High School Football
and Basketball. Follow-
ing graduation Johnie
married his wife Vicki in
1959 and then joined the
United States Army. He
spent time in Augusta
Georgia, and Germany
before returning to Pend-
leton, Oregon and settling
down to raise his family.
Johnie started his law en-
forcement career working
for the Pendleton Police
Department. In 1968 he
started his career with the
Oregon State Police that
would last until his retire-
ment in 1991. During his
career with the Oregon
State Police he had the
honor of being one of the
first 2 pilots to fly a fleet
of Super Cub airplanes
that the Department had
purchased to enhance
both patrol and fish and
game operations. Johnie’s
natural leadership abili-
ties served the
Oregon
State
Police and the
citizens of Ore-
gon well, as he
rose
through
the ranks and
achieved
the
rank of Major
and
District
C o m m a n d e r,
before retiring in 1991.
Johnie came to know
his Lord and Savior in
1980 and became very in-
volved in various church
families, teaching bible
studies and leading men’s
ministries. Anyone that
knew Johnie knew that
his desire and thirst to
research topics of interest
to him would make him a
spiritual warrior, and that
he was. His knowledge
and understanding of The
Word was truly remark-
able.
Besides his love of
aviation, he also loved
reading, hunting, fish-
ing, and cooking and
smoking delicious meats
to share with his friends
and loved ones. One of
Johnie’s all-time favorite
activities however, was
playing cribbage with his
best friend and life part-
ner Vicki. The number of
games they played togeth-
er over the years are too
great to even count, but
if counted he would cer-
tainly claim the lead.
He will be missed great-
ly and will leave a massive
void in many people’s
lives, but his legacy will
live on for generations.
There will be no ser-
vice but the family will
be holding a celebration
of his life on a date to be
announced later in the
spring.
