Out of the
Darkness hosts
virtual fundraiser
UMATILLA COUNTY
— This year’s Out of the
Darkness Eastern Oregon
Walk will take place virtu-
ally.
People are encouraged to
register online and help raise
money and awareness for the
American Foundation for
Suicide Prevention.
According to organiz-
ers, the global pandemic has
impacted the emotional and
economic well-being of many
individuals and families —
leaving many to manage a
variety of emotions, includ-
ing feelings of uncertainty.
And sometimes with that
uncertainty, thoughts of
suicide surface. The mission
of the American Foundation
for Suicide Prevention is to
invest in life saving research,
education, advocacy and
support for those impacted
by suicide.

SHIBA offers help
with Medicare
enrollment needs
SALEM — Each Octo-
ber, open enrollment begins
for Medicare Advantage and
Part D prescription drug
plans. Medicare plans and
coverage for prescription
drugs change each year, so it
is important for Oregonians
who are enrolled in Medicare
to evaluate their plan options
and make changes during
open enrollment.
Open enrollment for the
2022 Medicare plan year
began Friday, Oct. 15, and
continues through Dec. 7.
The Senior Health Insur-
ance Benefits Assistance
program with the Oregon
Depar tment of Human
Services is available to help
Oregonians understand their
Medicare options and bene-
fits, provide enrollment guid-
ance and answer questions
related to Medicare benefits.

are available to help and can

To accommodate COVID-19

‘American Sniper’
co-author to visit
local bookstore
HEPPNER — A book
event in Heppner will feature
the co-author of “American
Sniper.”
New York Times best-
selling author Scott McEwen
co-wrote the story of U.S.
Navy Seal Chris Kyle’s life.
He will meet people and sign
copies of the book Satur-
day, Oct. 16, 4 p.m. at Flood
Town Books, 413 N. Main
St., Heppner. The free event
includes refreshments, door
prizes and more.
The stor y of Kyle’s
life was depicted in a film
directed by Clint Eastwood
and starring Bradley Cooper.
Kyle was killed at a Texas
shooting range while trying
to provide help to a fellow
veteran.

MORROW COUNTY —
Morrow County is seeking
volunteers to represent the
Boardman and Ione area on
the Morrow County Planning
Commission.
Volunteers are appointed
to a four-year term ending
December 2025. At the end
of the term there is the option
for reappointment for another
four-year term.
The planning commis-
sion meets once each month
with the option of in-per-
