Symphony receives $10K grant award for youth programs PENDLETON — The Oregon East Symphony recently received a $10,000 grant award from the Brae- mar Charitable Trust to support the symphony’s Playing for Keeps project for students in fourth through 12th grades. The Braemar Charitable Trust is a private foundation based in Portland, which has supported the arts throughout Oregon for more than 25 years. The grant will support classical music education in the Pendleton area with after school classes for the follow- ing: fourth and fi fth grade beginning strings students; a beginning strings ensem- ble for students; an interme- diate orchestra for all ages; a mentoring program for advanced high school musi- cians; a weeklong strings instruction day camp; an instrument loan program; fi nancial support for private lessons/prog ram ent r y fees; and a Young People’s Concert, which is held twice a year. Closure begins October 13. Closure ends October 15. TRAVEL IMPACTS: Frontage Road will be closed at the bridge. Detour signs will guide travelers around the closed section. PURPOSE AND NEED: This reinforced concrete deck girder bridge was built in 1925. Extensive deterioration, increasing maintenance costs and potential safety concerns require a complete bridge replacement. ODOT is scheduled to begin construction in the spring of 2023. Engineers will use soil samples taken during drilling operations to determine appropriate materials, size and depth of new bridge footings.
