PENDLETON — The
Umatilla National Forest
is looking for volunteers to
spend the summer as camp-
ground hosts at the Jubilee
Lake and Bull Prairie Lake
campgrounds, according
to a press release from the
Umatilla National Forest.
A campground host greets
campers, provides informa-
tion on the surrounding area
and generally makes campers
feel at home. Hosts will visit
with campers and day-use
visitors, clean and maintain
restrooms, restock supplies,
occasionally clean up after
camp, and carry out minor
maintenance as needed.
Hosts need to be friendly,
fl exible, and responsible. Host
applicants may be subject to a
criminal background check.
Successful applicants
will need to supply their own
trailer, camper, or motor
home. Campground hosts
will be provided a campsite,
usually near the main entry-
way to the campground.
Though the host program is
a volunteer program, a food
allowance and propane is
off ered, and personal vehicle
mileage associated with host-
ing duties is reimbursed.

KEEP IT
Ben Lonergan/East Oregonian, File
A sign advises employees they must be wearing masks at an
employee entrance to Wildhorse Resort & Casino on Friday,
June 5, 2020. The Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian
Reservation will continue to require masks in all the opera-
tions it owns on and off of the reservation.
CTUIR will keep
mask requirements
By BRYCE DOLE
East Oregonian
MISSION — The Confed-
erated Tribes of the Umatilla
Indian Reservation will
continue to require masks in
all tribal government offi ces
and tribally owned stores and
restaurants both on and off
the reservation, according to
an announcement from tribal
health offi cials.
The announcement comes
a week after state and federal
health officials said fully
vaccinated people don’t need
to wear masks in most public
settings. State offi cials later
clarifi ed that fully vaccinated
Oregonians can only enter
a business maskless if they
show proof of vaccination,
and businesses must require
masks if they don’t check.
But the CTUIR decided to
keep its previous mask-wear-
ing rules in place because
“there is no effi cient and reli-
able method for determining
whether a person has been
vaccinated,” the announce-
ment said. And although many
people have vaccination cards
showing they’ve been immu-
nized against COVID-19,
tribal offi cials “will not place
the burden on our employees
to verify if patrons, co-work-
ers or clients are vaccinated.”
Tribal health offi cials also
said mask rules will remain
in place to protect all people
within tribal jurisdiction
from the coronavirus, partic-
ularly those who have yet to
be vaccinated.
Tribal offi cials “strongly”
encouraged people intending
to hold gatherings during the
upcoming graduation season
to limit group size and hold
gatherings outdoors.
“Any event or gather-
ing that is held, whether in
a private social setting or
as part of a larger organized
event such as prom or grad-
uation, should observe the
masking and social distanc-
ing requirements that indoor
events necessitate,” tribal offi -
cials said.
And with the recent case
spike on the reservation, tribal
health offi cials said they plan
to be “extremely cautious”
while considering easing
mask requirements in the
coming weeks.
