7:30 a.m. — Theft was reported on South Wayne Street in
Stanfi eld.
11:01 a.m. — Child neglect was reported to Pendleton police.
11:22 a.m. — Theft of a phone from a vehicle was reported on
East Hurlburt Avenue, Hermiston.
4:16 p.m. — Theft was reported on Highway 332 in
Milton-Freewater.
5:49 p.m. — A domestic disturbance was reported on South
Highway 395, Hermiston.
5:56 p.m. — Pendleton police responded to Brownfi eld Park,
12 S. Main St., and issued a warning for the use of scooters.
7:32 p.m. — Police responded to two reports of assault on
North First Street in Hermiston.
9:35 p.m. — An assault was reported on Northeast 10th Street
and East Punkin Center Road in Hermiston.
SATURDAY
2:33 a.m. — Sam’s Corner Market, 107 E. Broadway Ave., Mil-
ton-Freewater, reported the theft of two cases of White Claw.
7:28 a.m. — Theft was reported on Highway 332 in
Milton-Freewater.
8:48 a.m. — A vehicle was reported stolen on Highway 204
in Weston.
9:40 a.m. — Boardman fi re and police departments and Ore-
gon State Police responded to a report of a pickup and trailer on
fi re on Interstate 84 eastbound near Boardman.
9:50 a.m. — Hermiston police received a report of a bit bull
dog that attacked a cat on Northwest 11th Street.
10:08 a.m. — A car was reportedly on fi re in a parking lot on
North First Street in Hermiston.
11:06 a.m. — A two-vehicle crash in Hermiston sent one
driver to the hospital.
Oregon State Police reported one driver was traveling north
on Highway 395 when his vehicle crashed into another vehicle
turning left onto the highway from East Punkin Center Road. The
driver of the turning vehicle stated his light changed to red mid-
turn and he could not stop.
12:06 p.m. — The theft of mail and medications from a mail-
box was reported on Northeast Washington Street in Irrigon.
12:12 p.m. — A domestic disturbance was reported at North
Slope Mobile Home Park on North Lucy Street in Stanfi eld.
12:44 p.m. — Highway 395 and Punkin Center Road, Herm-
iston, was the scene of another two-vehicle crash that sent four
people to Good Shepherd Medical Center.
Oregon State Police reported a 34-year-old Hermiston man
was driving a Nissan Xterra north on Highway 395 when his vehi-
cle crashed into a Honda Accord crossing the intersection of Pun-
kin Center Road. State police determined the Nissan’s driver ran

a red light. The crash injured the Nissan’s driver, the driver of the
Honda, a 19-year-old woman from Umatilla, and her two passen-
gers, a 34-year-old woman and 4-year-old boy. Ambulances took
all of them to the hospital.
12:55 p.m. — Fraud was reported on Highway 730 in Umatilla.
4:20 p.m. — A possible death at a residence on Southwest
First Street was reported to Pendleton police.
4:29 p.m. — The Morrow County Sheriff ’s Offi ce responded to
a report of shots fi red on Rand Road in Irrigon, but the shooters
were no longer there.
4:45 p.m. — Domestic disturbance was reported on South-
west 11th Street, Hermiston.
8:27 p.m. — An assault was reported on Lincoln Avenue in
Umatilla.
9:05 p.m. — Two brothers fi ghting with knives on Estate Loop
in Irrigon were warned against continuing by Morrow County
sheriff ’s deputies.
9:32 p.m. — A domestic disturbance was reported on East
Punkin Center Road, Hermiston.
SUNDAY
1:59 a.m. — A train vs. car accident was reported on Rieth
Road in Echo.
2:31 a.m. — A noise complaint was reported on Southwest
Nye Avenue, Pendleton.
12:47 p.m. — Pendleton police responded to the area of
Southgate and Southwest 30th Street for a person driving with
an infant on their lap. Police issued a warning.
1:30 p.m. — Theft of services was reported at The Bike Pit, R.A.
Koch Road, Pilot Rock.
1:48 p.m. — A domestic disturbance was reported on Sev-
enth Street in Umatilla.
3 p.m. — Pendleton police responded to the emergency
department at Saint Anthony Hospital to help with a violent
male. Police made an arrest.
6 p.m. — The Boardman Fire Department removed a tree that
had fallen across both lanes of Wilson Lane in Boardman.
6:40 p.m. — Fraud was reported on Northeast Douglas Street
in Pilot Rock.
8:55 p.m. — The theft of a vehicle was reported at First Stop
Mart, 2316 S.E. Court Ave., Pendleton.
11:32 p.m. — A Domestic disturbance was reported on North
First Street, Hermiston.

•The Pendleton Police Department arrested Gregory Allen
Hering, 52, on fi ve counts, including felony and misdemeanor
counts of attempting to elude/fl ee law enforcement, misde-
meanor counts of reckless driving and hit and run, and a felony
count of fi rst-degree criminal mischief.

about Fred Stine
WALLA WALLA — Charles
Saranto will portray rags-to-riches
businessman Fred Stine during a
Living History presentation at Fort
Walla Walla Museum. The event is
Sunday, May 30, at 2 p.m. in the muse-
um’s Pioneer Village.
Fred Stine arrived in Walla Walla
in 1862 with no more than the clothes
on his back and 75 cents in his pocket.
Earning the trust of local residents,
he set up a lucrative blacksmith shop,
serving the needs of miners making
their way to Idaho’s goldfi elds, pioneers
from the Oregon Trail and the military
at Fort Walla Walla. He eventually built
the largest brick hotel in the Washing-
ton Territory.
Fort Walla Walla Museum is located
at 755 Myra Road, Walla Walla. It’s
open Friday through Sunday from
noon to 5 p.m. Regular admission is $9

Local women earn
agriculture scholarships
HERMISTON — The Eastern
Chapter of Oregon Women for Agricul-
ture has awarded its 2021 scholarships
to three outstanding students who are
pursuing agricultural degrees. These
scholarships support the next genera-
tion of women in agriculture.
Elizabeth Hanson
of La Grande won the
fi rst place scholarship
of $1,000. Hanson
plans to major in busi-
ness and agricultural
sciences at Eastern
Hanson
Oregon University/
Oregon State Univer-
sity.
Ashley Durning
of Pilot Rock was the
second place winner
and earned a scholar-
ship of $750. Durning
plans to major in the

master’s program at
Oregon State Univer-
sity.
Morgan Orem
of Heppner was the
third place winner
and received a $500
scholarship. Orem has

The Eastern Chapter of Oregon
Women for Agriculture is a nonprofi t
organization made up of individuals
from all walks of life who realize the
importance of agriculture and work
to communicate the story of today’s
agriculture. This is the third year the
group has been able to award scholar-
ships. These scholarships are possible
through the group’s fundraising eff orts
with the Echo Sage Trail 5K/10K Run,
the only fall Eastern Oregon trail race.

President’s List
MANCHESTER, NH — Five local
students were named to the winter
semester 2021 President’s List at
Southern New Hampshire University
(SNHU). The winter term runs from
January to May.
Earning a place on the list were
Pendleton alums Franklin Lewis,
Jenny Peters and Jennifer Sims, and
Hermiston graduates Jocelle Quinn
and Holly Kress.
Full-time students who have earned
a minimum GPA of 3.7 and above are
named to the President’s List. Full-time
status is achieved by earning 12 cred-
its; undergraduate day students must
earn 12 credits in fall or spring semes-
ter, and online students must earn 12
credits in either EW1/EW2, EW3/
EW4, or EW5/EW6.
