ARRESTS, CITATIONS
•The Hermiston Police Department arrested Kevin Ricardo
Melendez, 26, on eight counts, including one count of resisting
arrest, felony counts of fi rst-degree robbery, second-degree rob-
bery, the unlawful use of a weapon, second-degree abuse of a
corpse and conspiracy, and misdemeanor counts of menacing
and third-degree theft. His bail is set at $806,000.
•Oregon State Police arrested Gabriel Miguel Bautista, 55, of
Pasco, Wash., for driving under the infl uence of intoxicants (DUII).
•Milton-Freewater police arrested Adrian Rodarte, 32, on a
felony charge of strangulation (aggravated assault) and misde-
meanor charges of harassment and interfering with making a

•Stanfi eld police arrested Alexander Alton Moore, 21, for felon

fi brosis fundraiser
HERMISTON — Brew-
er’s Grade Band and Soul
Patch The Duo will perform
for the Breath of Life fund-
raiser in Hermiston.
The event is Saturday,
May 15, at 6 p.m. at Maxwell
Pavilion, 145 N. First Place,
Hermiston. Tickets, which are
available at the door, are $12
for adults and $5 for kids ages
6 and up.
In addition to music and
dancing, there will be a live
auction and dessert. Also, a
food truck will be on site for
purchases, and beer and wine
will be available.
Money raised from the
event will go to support
research for cystic fi brosis.
A genetic disease, it causes
the lungs to produce a thick,
sticky mucus. With advances
made through research over
the past 60 years, the life
expectancy of patients with
the disease has increased
from age 5 to more than 40.

upcoming races
PILOT ROCK — Pee
wee, MX and pit bike races
are featured during a two-day
event at The Bike Pit-OHV
Park.
The race dates are May
22-23 with the gates opening
at 7 a.m.; practice from 8:30-
9:30 a.m., with racing begin-
ning at 10 a.m. The Bike Pit
is located at 800 R.A. Koch
Road, Pilot Rock. Tickets at
the gate are $10 for adults, $5

to share their creativity in
honoring the troops.

for awareness
motorcycle run

awareness and money for
BikerDown is planned in
Morrow and Umatilla coun-
ties.
With the nice weather
upon us, people are encour-
aged to watch out for an
increase in motorcyclists on
the road. BikerDown also
strives to create a proactive
riding culture to help main-
tain safety.
The Look Twice, Save
a Life Run is Sunday, May
16, starting from Smiley’s
Happy Place, 102 Boardman
Ave., Boardman. Registration
begins at 10:30 a.m. and kick-
stands are up at 11:30 a.m.
All motorcycles, cars and
trucks are welcome to partic-
ipate with a suggested dona-
tion of $15. Also, participants
are invited to arrive early as
Smiley’s will be serving up
biscuits and gravy with all
proceeds going to the Biker-
Down fund.
The ride will go through
Irrigon, Umatilla, Hermiston
and Stanfi eld, where partic-
ipants will gather at Bard
Park for live music, a bike
show and prizes. In addition,
food will be available from
Becky’s Burger Wagon.

on a ride when several bikers
went down. The nonprofit
organization is dedicated to
