NWAC EAST DIVISION
Ben Lonergan/East Oregonian, File
Umatilla’s Ryan Lorence (5) runs the ball for a touchdown against the Irrigon Knights. The
Umatilla Vikings defeated the Irrigon Knights 55-8 at Umatilla High School on March 25,
2021.
Prep Football: Tigers will be without
Gator Goodrich due to previous injury
Continued from Page A10
for both teams, which are
grateful to have had a season.
“The great thing is we
get to play in April,” Hansell
said. “This has been one of
the longest seasons for any
football player, going back to
last fall. A lot of hard work by
a lot of people just to get us
on the fi eld. Our kids don’t
care if we are playing Thurs-
day, Friday or Saturday,
they are just excited to play
with each other and repre-
sent something bigger than
themselves.”
GRANT UNION AT
Pendleton:
Continued from Page A10
against Hood River, and if
we execute and fl y round like
we have, I think we match
up well with their off ense,”
Davis said.
One aspect of the game
that gives Davis pause for
concern is Summit’s kicking
game.
STANFIELD — The Tigers
are putting their three-game
win streak on the line against
the Prospectors in a 3 p.m.
April 9 contest.
Grant Union (2-2) is
coming off a 34-28 win over
Umatilla, while Stanfi eld ran
wild on Riverside 60-6.
The Tigers will be with-
out Gator Goodrich, who
was injured last week, but
the small team has learned
to adapt in the wake of adver-
sity.
IONE/ARLINGTON
AT PILOT ROCK — The
Rockets (3-2) are on a three-
game win streak, while the
Cardinals (0-4) still are look-
ing for their fi rst win.
The Thursday, April 8,
game will be a tough one for
Ione/Arlington, which lost
quarterback Hunter Padberg
to an injury. Taylor Rollins
stepped in for Padberg last
week and generated 219
yards of off ense.
MCLOUGHLIN AT
RIVERSIDE — The Pirates
(0-3) and Pioneers (1-3)
have taken their lumps this
season, making this matchup
an interesting one on April 9.
The Pioneers have lost
their last two games to Stan-
fi eld and Weston-McEwen.
Instead of punting or
going for it on fourth down,
the Storm has a weapon in
kicker in Soren McKee, who
set a school record by booting
a 50-yard fi eld goal last week.
“He is a special talent,”
Davis said. “Every kickoff is
through the end zone. Their
kicking game is something
we haven’t seen all year. That
is a weapon we generally
don’t see at the high school
level. He stood out on fi lm.
He can put points on the
board. That is something we
have to prepare for.”
The matchup with
Summit is the fi nal game of
the season for the Bucks, who
are ready to throw caution to
the wind.
“We are prepared for a
close one,” Davis said. “All
seat belts are off . I’m look-
ing forward to it. I’m looking
forward to the last hurrah
with these eight seniors.”
