Athena honors citizens, business of the year
East Oregonian
ATHENA — The Athena
Mainstreet Association
recently honored its own with
the annual Citizens and Busi-
ness of the Year awards.
Alan and Chrissy Froese
were chosen as Athena’s
2021 Citizens of the Year.
The couple has served their
community over the years
by volunteering with youth
programs, sports, families in
need and at Athena Christian
Church.
Alan Froese has served his
community since his school
days at Weston-McEwen
High School, where he was
a star athlete. He has contin-
ued his love of sports as a
youth football coach and high
school statistician. He also is a
talented sculptor, woodworker
and musician, donating his
time teaching guitar lessons
to local youths and leading
the church music worship
team. And he offers annual
car care servicing to widows
and single women in need in

Chrissy Froese is active in
the church and leads women’s
Bible studies, as well as coor-
dinating the annual Ladies
Holiday Breakfast. She also
is a talented graphic designer,
donating her skills for adver-
tising and signs for church,
community and cancer
support activities. She serves
as a source for homeschool-
ing ideas and curriculum for
area families, and helped to
bring ballet and other extra-
curricular activities to the
area. She also co-chairs the
local Outreach Program for

Hermiston, pleaded guilty to
Unlawful Use of Weapon: sen-
tenced to 45 months Oregon
Dept. of Corrections (DOC),
15 months post-prison super-
vision, $500 fine and restitu-
tion to be determined; pleaded
guilty to DUII (misdemeanor):
sentenced to 60 days jail, $2,000
fine and 1 year driver’s license
suspension; pleaded guilty
to four counts of Recklessly
Endangering Another Person
(misdemeanors): sentences to
discharge; pleaded guilt to a
second count of DUII (misde-

•Curtis Wendell Bevan, 45,
Hermiston, pleaded guilty to
Theft I: sentenced to 13 months

supervision and $200 fine.
•Clifford Eugene Bradley,
55, Boardman, pleaded guilty
to Fleeing/Attempt to Elude
Police: sentenced to 13 months
Oregon DOC, 2 years post-
prison supervision and $200
fine; pleaded guilty to Driv-
ing While Suspended/Revoked
(misdemeanor): sentenced to
$2,000 fie; pleaded guilty to
six additional counts of Driv-
ing While Suspended/Revoked
(misdemeanors): sentences to
discharge.
•John Kameron Connell, 27,
Hermiston, pleaded guilty to
two counts of Manufacture/
Delivery of Controlled Sub-
stance-Schedule II: sentenced to
2 years probation, 120 sanction
units, 60 maximum jail units,
$500 fine and $1,500 fine-sus-
pended for each count, and 160
hours community service.
•Cindy Lee Fisher, 34, Herm-
iston, pleaded guilty to Fail-
ure to Appear I: sentenced to 2
years probation, 120 sanction
units, 60 maximum jail units
and $200 fine.
•Dillan Drake Massey, 31,
Hermiston, pleaded guilty to
Possession of Methamphet-
amine: sentence to discharge;
pleaded guilty to Theft III (mis-
demeanor): sentenced to 5
years probation and $800
compensatory fine; pleaded
guilty to a second count of
Theft III, Felon in Possession of
Restricted Weapon, Carrying
Concealed Weapon and Inter-
fering With Peace/Parole/Pro-
bation Officer (misdemeanors):
sentences to discharge.
•Amber Mae Stone, 37,
Pendleton, pleaded guilty to
Felon in Possession of Fire-
arm: sentenced to 3 years pro-
bation, 180 sanction units, 90

Garrard, 42, of Lake-
side, Arizona, is the son of
Gary and Deanna Garrard
of Hermiston.
He serves as the Disabled
Veteran Outreach Program
workforce specialist in the
Workforce Development
Administration within
the Northeastern Arizona
Department of Economic
Security, providing assis-
tance to veterans experienc-
ing barriers to employment,
including custom resumes,
job searches, job inter-
view assistance, individ-
ual employment plans, and
Veterans Tool Kit assis-
tance.
Garrard served 20 years
in aircraft maintenance
in the Air Force, retir-
ing in 2017. Beginning in
November of that year in
his current role, he covers
the communities of Globe,
Payson, Springerville,
Eagar, Holbrook, Show
Low, Snowf lake,Taylor,
Pinetop-Lakeside, and the
White Mountain Apache
tribe.
He also serves as the
chair of the Northeastern
Arizona Veteran Orga-
nization Services Round
Table, and with the Nava-
jo-Apache-Gila Tri-County
Partnership for the Becon-
nected program for service
members. He is also the
commander for American
Legion Post 76 in Show
Low, Arizona.
