Women vets
invited to town hall
WALLA WALLA, Wash.
— The Walla Walla VA
invites all women veterans
to participate in an upcom-
ing women veterans COVID-
19 telephone town hall
being held by the VA Port-
land Health Care System on
Wednesday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m.
Topics to be discussed
include information about
the COVID-19 vaccine, side
effects, and facts that women
veterans should know. Walla
Walla VA personnel will be
listening in on the call in
order to address any issues or
questions by women veterans
in the Walla Walla VA catch-
ment area.
Those wishing to attend
must sign up in advance of
the event on Feb. 24 in order
to receive the invite phone
call. Details can be found at

offer scholarships
HERMISTON — The
Northeast Oregon Home
B u i ld e r s A s s o c i a t io n
(NEOHBA) is offering two
$1,500 scholarships to help
educate and train individu-
als in a profession related to
the building industry. The
scholarship recipients will be
selected on the basis of his/
her potential to succeed.
Applicants must currently
be a senior enrolled in high
school, enrolled as a college
student or in a qualified
apprenticeship program. The
students must be a resident
of Umatilla, Morrow, Union,
Baker or Wallowa counties
and have an interest in or
intend to pursue a career in
the construction profession,
including but not limited to
welding, heating and venti-
lation, heavy equipment
operator, carpentry, elec-
trical, plumbing, concrete,
construction management,
and architecture/engineer-
ing (civil, landscaping, struc-
tural, etc.).

Crossroads seeking
holiday card
artists for contest
BAKER CITY — Cross-
roads Carnegie Art Center
in Baker City has opened
its annual Winter Holiday
Card contest to amateur and
professional artists ages 18
and up.
Judges will be looking
for an artistic interpreta-
tion of the winter season
in a festive way to serve as
the offi cial 2021 Crossroads
holiday card. All mediums
are welcome, and the center
asks that signatures are
modest, with no lettering on
the front. Submit each entry
with the correct form and
in an individual protective
sleeve to prevent confusion
or damage to the work when
making fi nal decisions.
All artwork must be origi-
nal and submitted unframed,
minimum 3”x5” and maxi-
mu m 12”x18”. Larger
two-dimensional and all 3-D
works must be submitted as
a high-quality digital image
along with the original work.
More than one entry may be
submitted, but each must
have its own entry form.
The winner will receive a
$100 prize and two boxes of
the completed cards, as well

will be kept by Crossroads

by Aug. 11 via email, and
must pick up their entries by
no later than Aug. 18.

Basic Police Class at the
Oregon Department of Public
Safety Standards and Train-
ing (DPSST).
The Basic Police Class
is 16 weeks in length and
includes dozens of training
areas, including survival
skills, fi rearms, emergency
vehicle operations, ethics,
cultural diversity, problem
solving, community polic-
ing, elder abuse, drug recog-
nition, and dozens of other
subjects.
Basic Police Class 404
will graduate during a private
ceremony at the Oregon
Public Safety Academy in
Salem on Thursday, March
4, at 1:30 p.m.
