Her father was a factory and forge worker, and her mother was an accountant and homemaker. As a youngster, Stone distinguished herself at school and was accelerated through several grades, entering second grade at only 5 years old. Her early creativity was as evident as her intelligence, and Sharon Stone in “Mosaic” she indulged in activities that in- cluded sewing her own clothing, painting, creative writing and the staging of amateur plays in the family garage that featured her own scripts and sets. By the end of her high school career, Stone was already splitting time between high school classes and university courses, and she soon embarked upon the study of creative writing full time. A judge at the event advised her to quit school and move to New York City to pursue modeling, and in 1977 Stone did just that. Within days of arriving in New York, Stone had signed with the prestigious Ford Modeling Agen- cy, and her work in various ad campaigns afforded her a globe- trotting lifestyle that exposed her to the culture and arts scenes in a variety of destinations. Inspired, Stone made the decision to tran- sition from modeling to acting, and she took up the study of the dramatic arts. Her first role was a brief appearance in Woody Allen’s “Stardust Memories” (1980), and she later secured a speaking role in Wes Craven’s horror film “Deadly Blessing” (1981). Stone spent most of the early 1980s occupied with roles in tele- vision series, and the last half of the decade saw her cast in action and adventure movies such as “King Solomon’s Mines” (1985) and “Cold Steel” (1987). In 1990, Stone appeared opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in director Paul Verhoeven’s “Total Recall,” and her memorable performance as an assassin disguised as the protagonist’s wife led to positive industry attention. Stone’s first starring role came in 1991 in the psychological thriller “Scissors,” and in 1992 she gave one of her most iconic and infamous performances in Renata Anderson, Pam Wagenaar, Administrative Assistant 2237 SW Court, Pendleton 541-276-5053 www.renataanderson.com Verhoeven’s erotic neo-noir mys- tery “Basic Instinct.” At this point, Stone was a true leading lady and was able to select projects with much more freedom. She joined the cast of the slick western “The Quick and the Dead” (1995) and gave a powerful performance in Martin Scorsese’s “Casino” the same year. Stone’s late 90s output con- sisted mostly of forgettable or underperforming films, including the sci-fi movie “Sphere” (1998) and the romantic comedy “The Muse” (1999). In 2004, Stone was part of the notorious flop “Catwoman,” and in 2006 she reprised her “Basic Instinct” role in “Basic Instinct 2,” which failed to get the attention or acclaim of the original. In 2017, she was part of the cast for Steven Soderbergh’s tech- nologically ambitious interactive murder mystery series “Mosaic,” which was facilitated by HBO (and later cut into six episodes that aired on the network). On Monday, Jan. 13, Stone re- turns to HBO as part of the cast of “The New Pope,” a series about the fictional Pope Pius XIII that continues the story of the char- acter introduced in 2016’s “The Young Pope.” FACTS: - Born March 10, 1958, in Meadville, Pennsylvania, United States (age 61) - Won the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama for her work in “Casino” - Was set to play a character ironically named “Sharon Stone” in 1994’s “The Flintstones” but had to drop out for another project - Converted to Buddhism after being introduced to the Dalai Lama by Richard Gere - Owns a ranch in New Zealand with more than 40 acres of sun- flower crops - Is allergic to caffeine QUOTES: “I think, for a long time, people just did not know what to do with me.
