HSD staff warm up with the giving spirit East Oregonian HERMISTON — Clas- sifi ed staff in the Hermis- ton School District helped make a difference for the Hermiston Warming Station. The group collected a variety of items, includ- ing socks, gloves, cleaning supplies, hygiene supplies and snacks. Cathy Keeney, Oregon School Employees Association chapter pres- ident, said the group is a “strong supporter of our community” and the annual Hermiston Warming Station supply drive is one example of how members contribute to local organizations. EOPAC creates tropical Christmas fun East Oregonian PENDLETON — A trop- ical theme was featured as the Eastern Oregon Phil- ippine American Commu- nity held its annual Christ- mas celebration. In addition to colorful Hawaiian outfi ts, Noemi Wiseman, the group’s pres- ident, said the festive party was fi lled with food and fun. Those in attendance partici- pated in parlor games, raffl e drawings and a photo booth. Wiseman said every- one enjoyed the entertain- ment, which included a pair of Hawaiian dances. Grace Magallanes presented a He Mele No Lilo dance and the Little Brown Girl dance fea- tured Tiffany Wiseman, Tesla Williams, Brandy Coleman, Miranda Leon- ard, Sophie Rock and Miracle Edmiston. Special Olympics wraps up fall season East Oregonian HERMISTON — In recognition of a successful fall sports season, Herm- iston/Pendleton Special Olympics Local Program #510 recently gathered for a celebration. The Dec. 2 event, held at The Arc Building in Hermiston, featured an awards ceremony. Hermis- ton VFW Post #4750 pre- sented the colors and led the pledge of allegiance. In addition to bowl- ing and swimming ath- letes, special guests included several members of the Hermiston Police Department and Herm- iston High School Key Club, who provided assis- tance during the Nov. 8 Regional Bowling Com- petition held Nov. 8 at Desert Lanes Family Fun Center in Hermiston. With assistance from the two groups, head bowl- ing coach Doris Boatright presented awards, includ- ing medals to Jillian Smalley (gold), MaryAnn Wright (silver) and Shir- ley Fell (bronze). Also, the top three fund- raisers for the Fall Bow- lathon were announced and presented with prizes. First place honors went to Smalley, followed by Michael Downing and David Andrews. With more than 80 athletes par- ticipating in fall sports, the group was able to raise over $5,000 for the local program, communications manager Kristi Smalley said. The gathering also included a spaghetti din- ner served by volunteers from the Gems and Gents Cheer Program. The group also provided a short demonstration of their cheerleading and dance skills. The winter sports sea- son, which includes bas- ketball and powerlifting, will begin Monday, Jan. 6. For more information, call program coordina- tor Angela Schneider at 541-314-0166.
