Stars set to host Predators at Cotton Bowl for the Winter Classic

T
he 12th NHL Winter Classic is headed
down south for the very first time, fea-
turing two teams that will be making their
outdoor game debuts. The Nashville Preda-
tors take on the Dallas Stars at Cotton Bowl
Stadium in Dallas, Texas, on New Year’s Day.
Tune in Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020, for live
coverage of the outdoor action on NBC.
For many of the Stars and Predators
players, playing in an outdoor game (let
alone a Winter Classic) has never been a
realistic expectation. Historically, Winter
Classic games have been played in the
frigid winter climates of the American Mid-
west and northeast, not in the mild winter

of the south. One player who is looking
forward to the opportunity to play in the
outdoor game is Stars center Tyler Seguin,
who said in an interview, “I wasn’t sure
if I’d ever get the opportunity. But now,
this is a dream come true, and I’m really
excited.” Drafted by the Boston Bruins in
2010, Seguin missed the 2010 Winter Clas-
sic against the Philadelphia Flyers and was
traded to the Stars before the 2016 Winter
Classic between Boston and the Montreal
Canadiens.
Veteran center Nick Bonino had a
couple of outdoor game experiences dur-
ing his time with the Anaheim Ducks and
Pittsburgh Penguins. He assisted a Matt
Beleskey goal against Los Angeles Kings
goaltender Jonathan Quick in a 3-0 win

during the 2014 Stadium Series at Dodger
Stadium. He also scored a goal against
Michal Neuvirth in the Penguins’ 4-2 win
over the Flyers in the 2017 Stadium Series
at Heinz Field. Expect Bonino to see more
than his average of 17 minutes of ice time,
and to lead the young Predators roster in
the franchise’s first outdoor game.
The Cotton Bowl will have a full crowd
of about 70,000 in attendance, as tickets
for the 2020 Winter Classic sold out the
first day of availability (the second fastest
Winter Classic sellout ever). Tune in for
what should be a memorable Winter Clas-
sic when the Stars host the Predators at the
Cotton Bowl on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020.
