GRANT UNION 38, UMATILLA 37 — The Vikings fell by just one point in a heartbreaking overtime battle against the Prospectors in the sec- ond round of the Columbia River Clash Tournament at Umatilla High School. The game was knotted at 31-31 at the end of regu- lation. The Prospectors then outscored the Vikings 7-6 in overtime to pull out a close victory. Umatilla’s Taylor Durfey scored a team-high 18 points and Devina Mon- real had 12, including two 3-pointers. FAITH BIBLE 62, IRRIGON 36 — The Knights fell in the sec- ond round of the win- ner’s bracket during Fri- day’s nonleague matchup at the Columbia River Clash Tournament at Umatilla High School. Jessica Medina led the Cardinals with 13 points, while Mackenzie Heide- man had eight points, five steals and three assists. Hailey Heideman added eight rebounds, and Faviola Juarez five steals. Ione/Arlington will play Klickitat/Glenwood (Wash- ington) at 2 p.m. Saturday in Arlington. HELIX 37, CONDON/ WHEELER 35 — Kaylee Cope scored 11 points as the Grizzlies edged past Con- don/Wheeler at the Arling- ton Snowball Tournament on Friday. Helix (2-1) will face Klickitat/Glenwood for the first of two meetings this season at 1 p.m. Saturday for the tournament’s final round. Girls wrestling Hermiston dominated the middle and upper weights, but Chiawana did all the damage it needed to in the first seven matches en route to a 42-36 Mid-Columbia Conference win Thursday in Hermiston. The Bulldogs forfeited at 130 pounds, making the dif- ference in the match. Every match of the night was won by fall. Talia Borrego started the Bulldogs’ run of six con- secutive wins with a pin of Angelica Sanchez at 135, and Jazmin Deike finished things off with a pin of Liz- eth Jauregui at 190. NIXYAAWII 72, RIV- ERSIDE 36 — The Golden Eagles (3-2) captured their third consecutive victory with a blowout win Friday over the Riverside Pirates in the second round of the Umatilla-hosted Columbia River Clash. The Golden Eagles built a 19-12 first-quarter lead, then took control of the contest by outscoring the Pirates 18-6 in the second. Mick Schimmel poured in 22 points to lead the way, and freshman Shane Rivera finished with a career- best 21 points to drive the Golden Eagles’ offense. Tyasin Burns added 16 points, while Moses Moses grabbed 10 rebounds. Juan Reyna led Riverside with seven points, and Cris- tian Rea and Ramon Mon- tes each had five. Rea also added five assists, and Brian Franco had seven rebounds. Nixyaawii will play Umatilla for the Clash title at 6 p.m. Saturday at Uma- tilla High School. PENDLETON 75, PUT- NAM 48 — Dakota Sams scored 18 points, and Stock- ton Hoffman and Kason Broncheau each added 11 as the Bucks rolled to their third straight nonleague victory. “We swung the ball well and hit the open guy, even if it meant making the extra pass,” Pendleton head coach Zach Dong said. “Dakota started off red hot.” Sams posted 16 of his 18 points in the first quarter to help bury the Kingsmen early. Pendleton held their hosts to just six points in the third quarter. “That is huge,” Dong said. “We preach to the guys not to let up, and that the first three minutes of the second (half) are the most important.” Pendleton (5-1) hosts Lewiston on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. for their season’s first home showing. UMATILLA 49, GRANT UNION 46 — The Vikings remain unde- feated on the season as they escaped with a victory over the Prospectors in the sec- ond round of the Columbia River Clash. Andrew Earl led the Vikings (5-0) with 16 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Ty Cranston had a team-best 12 rebounds, and Chris Self had six steals. MAC-HI 63, STAN- FIELD 60 — Dareagan Ste- phens posted 24 points, and Marcellus Brinkley added 15 as the Pioneers defeated the Tigers in a consolation matchup at the Columbia River Clash Tournament in Umatilla. Stanfield had three play- ers in double figure scor- ing. Uriel Carrillo led with 12, while Rene Sanchez and Hobbs Hurty each chipped in 10. Nine of Stanfield’s 10 players contributed to its scoring. Mac-Hi (3-1) will play for the tournament’s con- solation championship at Umatilla High School at noon Saturday. Stanfield will play for seventh place at noon at Clara Brownell Middle School. PILOT ROCK 56, ELGIN 43 — The Rockets remain unbeaten after Fri- day’s nonleague home win. Payton Thurmond and Tel Thacker combined for 30 points for Pilot Rock. Thacker had 14 points and seven rebounds, and Thacker finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Pilot Rock (4-0) are on the road Saturday at 5:30 p.m. to face Cove. KENNEDY 77, W ESTON-MCEW EN 52 — Theo White had 19 points and 13 reounds, but his efforts weren’t enough as the TigerScots fell to the host Trojans at the Kennedy Classic. Kennedy jumped out to a 23-12 lead after the first quarter, and had a com- manding 49-24 lead at the half. Ben Hubbard added 13 rebounds for W-M (0-5), while Blane Peal chipped in 11 points. Luke Hall scored 16 of his game-high 22 points in the first half for the Trojans (2-1), while Bruce Beyer added 20 points. JORDAN VALLEY 58, ECHO 20 — Jace Grenke had 13 points, and Blaise Warn and Trevor Fillmore each added 10 as the Mus- tangs ran away with a non- league win over the Cougars at the Badger Tournament at Powder Valley High School. The Cougars (0-4) trailed 13-2 after the first quarter, and were held scoreless in the fourth. Mason Murdock led Echo with seven points, while Juan Curiel had five.
