“Marvel’s Runaways”
Season 3
The Marvel Universe continues to
expand as “Runaways” heads into
its third season, premiering Friday,
Dec. 13, on Hulu. Follow the lives
of Chase Stein (Gregg Sulkin, “Fak-
ing It”), Gert Yorkes (Ariela Barer,
“Atypical”), Nico Minoru (Lyrica
Okano, “The Affair”), Karolina Dean
(Virginia Gardner, “Halloween,”
and Alex Wilder (Rhenzy Feliz,
“Casual”), a group of teens who
discover that their parents make
up a group of supervillains known
as PRIDE. Season 1 saw the friends
begin to investigate their parents,
discovering their very own superhu-
man abilities in the process. But
after learning about a sinister plan
hatched by PRIDE leader Jonah (Ju-
lian McMahon, “Nip/Tuck”), they
realize they are not safe in their
own homes and band together
as they run away. In the second
season, the kids adjust not only to
living away from home but having
new powers they don’t understand.
They also work together to try to
stop Jonah and the rest of their
parents. Make sure to watch as
they take on a new villain played
by Elizabeth Hurley (“The Royals”)
when Season 3 premieres.
“Sherman’s
Showcase” Season 1
The first installment of this in-
novative comedy series lands on
Jonathan Rhys Meyers and John Travolta in “From Paris, With Love”
Hulu Wednesday, Dec. 11. It’s a
throwback to old variety shows like
“In Living Color,” “American Band-
stand” and “Soul Train.” “Sher-
man’s Showcase” is a variety show
that’s been on the air for years
(fictional, of course), and the show’s
longtime host, Sherman McDaniels
(Bashir Salahuddin, “South Side”),
walks viewers through some of the
best bits going back decades. It’s a
hilarious look at culture and music
through the ages, all packed into
a hilarious sketch-comedy format.
Expect to see some familiar faces
as the likes of Common (“Hell on
Wheels”), Marlon Wayans (“Mar-
lon”), Nigel Lythgoe (“So You Think
You Can Dance?”), Lil Rel Howery
(“Rel”), Chandra Russell (“South
Side”), Eliza Coupe (“Future Man”)
and more guest star.
“The Great American
Baking Show”
Paul Hollywood and Sherry Yard in “The Great American Baking Show”

December 11, 2019 | East Oregonian and Hermiston Herald
On Friday, Dec. 13, Season 5 of this
reality TV series premieres on ABC
and Hulu, but you can stream the
previous seasons now. This show is
a rarity in the world of reality televi-
sion; while it features dramatic
moments, miserable failures and
triumphant wins, it’s also the kind-
est, friendliest competition around.
Each season, 10 contestants gather
to show off their baking prowess,
and one baker is eliminated at the
end of every episode. Each week
has a theme: pastry, bread, cookies,
cakes and so on, and it’s fascinat-
ing to watch how one contestant
can totally bomb one week, but
come out on top the next. Paul Hol-
lywood is the unofficial head judge
of the show, as he’s been judging
its parent series “The Great British
Bakeoff” for almost 10 seasons
now. He’s joined by award-winning
pastry chef Sherry Yard and former
football player Anthony “Spice”
Adams, and the mix of experts and
celebrity really works. There’s one
more celebrity in the mix, and this
one draws in a lot of fans: former
Spice Girl Emma Bunton (Baby
Spice!) hosts the show, and she’s
incredibly endearing. Catch up on
previous seasons of this competi-
tion while you wait for the new one
to start, and enjoy all the delicious
challenges along the way.
From Paris With Love
(2010)
This crime thriller premieres
Sunday, Dec. 8, and stars John
Travolta (“American Crime Story”)
and Jonathan Rhys Meyers (“The
Tudors”). James Reese (Meyers)
seems to have it made: a great
job as the personal aide to the
American ambassador in France,
a beautiful and loving girlfriend,
and a wonderful life in Paris,
France. But he gets his thrills from
his side job as a low-level CIA
operative. He hopes to move up
through the ranks, and when he’s
assigned to partner secret agent
Charlie Wax (Travolta), he thinks
he’s getting his chance. Wax has
been sent to Paris to investigate
the death of the niece of the U.S.
Secretary of Defense, and as they
pursue their various leads, the two
agents discover a much bigger
conspiracy that involves terrorism,
drug-running and sleeper agents.
As Reese’s life begins to fall apart
bit by bit, he must decide whether
the dangers of CIA life are what
he truly wants.
