By Jessica Gosse TV Media “6 Underground” (2019) On Friday, Dec. 13, Ryan Reyn- olds and the creators of “Dead- pool” reunite in this star-studded new action film premiering on the streamer. Reynolds stars as the leader of a vigilante special ops team targeting the most dangerous criminals throughout Europe. Joining him as his care- fully selected team of operatives are Melanie Laurent (“Inglorious Bastards,” 2009), Ben Hardy (“EastEnders”), Corey Hawkins (“BlacKkKlansman,” 2018), Adria Arjona (“Emerald City”) and Manuel Garci-Rulfo (“The Magnificent Seven,” 2016). Hav- ing faked their deaths, the six are essentially ghosts, and they work to pull off covert missions aimed at taking out truly evil people. They know that they won’t be remembered but take solace in the fact that their actions sure as hell will be. As if it wasn’t already sure to be a hit based on the cast alone, Michael Bay (“Transform- ers”) is on board as director and has described the film as him getting “back to his old-school self.” Don’t miss the comedy and explosion-filled premiere of “6 Ryan Reynolds stars in “6 Underground” Underground” when it premieres this Friday. “Family Reunion: A Family Reunion Christmas” Everyone who fell in love with the McKellan family when “Fam- ily Reunion” premiered on Net- flix this summer may still have a while to wait for a new season, but on Monday, Dec. 9, you can get a small fix of the family fun when “A Family Reunion Christ- mas” premieres on the streamer. For those who are unfamiliar, Tia Mowry (“The Game”) stars as Cocoa McKellan, a free-spirited mother from Seattle who moves her husband, Moz (Anthony Alabi, “Raven’s Home”), and four children — Jade (Talia Jack- son, “Station 19”), Shaka (Isaiah Russell-Bailey, “Throwback Holiday,” 2018), Mazzi (Cameron J. Wright, “Tall Girl,” 2019) and Ami (Jordyn Raya James, “Five Points”) — to a small town in Georgia to be closer to family. Everyday life is already a huge adjustment for the family, which has gone from the big city to a small southern town, and Christ- mas is sure to be even more of an adjustment with already lengthy church services undoubtedly running longer and the home cooking of family matriarch M’Dear (Loretta Devine, “Grey’s Anatomy”) becoming even more elaborate. the fifth premieres in February on Starz — but fans who have been waiting for the next install- ment can rejoice: Season 3 lands on the streamer Tuesday, Dec. 10. The series is pulled from the pag- es of Diana Gabaldon’s bestsell- ing series, and this season more or less sticks to the events of the third novel, “Voyager.” We pick up with Jamie (“Doctors”) and Claire (“Ford v Ferrari,” 2019) af- ter Claire has gone back through the standing stones to her own time: 1948. She’s pregnant with Jamie’s baby, but with no way to return to 1746, she must stay with Frank (Tobias Menzies, “The Crown”), who genuinely loves her, but struggles to understand her. They move to Boston, where she struggles to readjust, and ultimately enrolls in medical school (a strange endeavor for a woman at that time). Mean- while, in 1746, Jamie has faced what he knew would be a grim defeat at the Battle of Culloden, and is gravely injured. The first five episodes of the season chronicle the lovers’ individual journeys in their own time, but the reunion you’re waiting for does happen, and we get to see Claire and Jamie together again. They’ve aged and changed, and so have the times, but there are some things that never change. Claire still manages to let her sassiness get the better of her, and always ends up embroiled in some scandal or dangerous situation. Jamie is as devoted as ever to Claire, and still nobly puts the needs of others before his own. Jenny (Laura Donnelly, “Britannia”) and Ian (Steven Cree, “Deep Water”) make some memorable appearances this season, but it’s an almost fully grown Young Ian (John Bell, “Into the Badlands”) who instigates Jamie and Claire’s voyage to America, and takes the show in a whole different direc- tion. Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix, “Vikings”) is back this season, too, and we finally get to see a couple of vital book characters, Brianna (Sophie Skelton, “Ren”) and Roger (Richard Rankin, “Thirteen”). If you’ve never seen this steamy drama, it’s certainly worth a binge. “Outlander” Season 3 Netflix is a little behind with these “Outlander” seasons — Loretta Devine in “Family Reunion” 20 | Screentime December 11, 2019 | East Oregonian and Hermiston Herald Sam Heughan in a scene from “Outlander”
