A Premier League carol: Leicester City take on Manchester City

he Premier League celebrates the
holidays with an important prime-time
match only a few days before Christmas.
Tune in Saturday, Dec. 21, as Manchester
City hosts Leicester City. Find out which
team is caroling at the end of 90 minutes
with live coverage from Etihad Stadium
on NBC.
Manchester City entered the 2019-20
Premier League season looking to defend
its title for a third straight year, a feat last
achieved by Manchester United in 2009.
Pep Guardiola’s side kicked off the season
with a 5-0 win over West Ham United and
seemed on track for another dominant

season until center-back Aymeric Laporte
went down with a knee injury at the end
of August. His absence did not take long
to derail the team, as Manchester City was
upset by newly promoted side Norwich
City in the first game without Laporte
leading the backfield. Surprisingly short
on defensive options, Guardiola has relied
on midfielder Fernandinho as a makeshift
center-back, and he’s been unreliable to
say the least.
When Manchester City dropped the first
meeting against Liverpool, 3-1, Leicester
City took over second position in the table
with a 2-0 win over Arsenal. Brendan Rod-
gers has the Foxes back in their 2015-16
title-winning form, and they look to be
Liverpool’s biggest threat. If it wasn’t for

leaders in October. The week after the test
against Manchester City, the Foxes get the
opportunity to redeem that loss, and as
they take on Liverpool, they will certainly
hope to close in on the Reds’ lead.

orcising the ghost of seasons past and
repeat the miracle run it enjoyed in 2015-
16. Meanwhile, Manchester City hopes
to see an earlier return from Laporte:
the ghost of season yet to come. Tune in
