Kamiakin held Hermis- ton to 121 yards of offense en route to a 40-7 mid-Co- lumbia Conference victory on a chilly night at Lampson Stadium. “It was a tough night,” said Hermiston assistant coach richard Wells, who filled in for coach David Faaeteete, who was serv- ing a one-game suspension. “they are a very good foot- ball team. Coach (Scott) biglin could have made it worse than what it was. they are a class organization.” Sophomore Sam Cadenas said it was tough not having Faaeteete on the sidelines. “It was hard without him,” Cadenas said. “He helps us on defense, and when we do something good, he gets up. SPORTS SHORTS Trump to host Nationals at White House WaSHINGtoN (aP) — President donald trump will welcome the come-from-behind Washington Nationals baseball team who will celebrate their World Series victory monday on the South Lawn of the White House. the Nationals beat the Hous- ton astros 6-2 on Wednesday to clinch the title in Game 7 of the World Series. They are the first World Series winner with all four victories on the road. trump attended part of Game 5 at Nationals Park in Washing- ton and was greeted with both cheers and boos. When the boos began as Trump’s image flashed on the ballpark’s giant video screen, the president seemed momentarily taken aback. He mouthed something to his wife, melania trump, while gamely trying to clap along. but his smile froze and then faded as the boos continued and some in the crowd launched into a brief chant of “Lock him up,” a version of the phrase chanted against Hillary Clinton at doz- ens of trump rallies during the 2016 campaign. Hermiston started the 2a/3a state tournament Friday with a 26-2 victory over Prairie, then topped Washougal 10-0 to reach the championship game at Gate- way Sports Complex. “We put the ball in play, and everyone contributed,” Hermiston coach Kate Greenough said. “It was pretty cool.” the bulldogs, who have won 18 games in a row, will play mt. Spokane at 2 p.m. Saturday in the championship game. It’s a rematch of last week’s mCC/GSL/GNL district title game, which the bull- dogs won 10-9. “tomorrow will be a great game,” Greenough said. “they are going for it. I’m hopeful — if they play Hermiston softball, they will come out on top.” It was 23 degrees at the start of the first game against Prairie, but once the bulldogs got warmed up, they took a 7-2 lead after two innings, and never let the Falcons cross home plate again. bailey Noland hit a three-run homer in the second inning to give Hermiston a 10-2 lead. “the fences are 240 (feet) — it’s a very big field,” Greenough said. “She hit it into no man’s land in right field and had to run it out.” In the bottom of the third inning, the bulldogs sent 18 bat- ters to the plate, scored 16 runs and took a commanding 26-2 lead. the game ended after 4½ innings. “all of the starters had a hit in that game,” Greenough said. against Washougal, the game was scoreless until the fifth inning. Sam atilano hit a solo home run in the fifth inning for the Bulldogs. “We hit the ball really well and played great defense,” Greenough said. Junior abby Findley pitched both games and added a couple of doubles to help her cause.
