Patriots take on Steelers in Sunday-night action

reaking from tradition, the reigning Super
Bowl champions will not feature in the
season’s kickoff game, and will instead host
the first Sunday night football game of the
2019 NFL season. Tune in Sunday, Sept. 8,
when Tom Brady and the New England Pa-
triots kick off their season against the Pitts-
burgh Steelers, with live coverage on NBC.
At 42 years old, Tom Brady is embarking
upon his 20th season in the NFL as the Pa-
triots’ starting quarterback. Picked 199th in
the 2000 NFL Draft, Brady has had one of the

most prolific careers in league history, having
won three NFL MVP awards and a record six
Super Bowl titles and four Super Bowl MVPs.
Brady has accomplished all of this with a
different backfield and receiving corps in al-
most every season. When he threw his 500th
touchdown last season, it was to his NFL
record 71st different player, Josh Gordon.
Brady and the Patriots are set to begin a
post-Rob Gronkowski era. The five-time Pro
Bowl tight end announced his retirement in
March at the age of 29. In nine seasons with
the Patriots, Gronkowski won three Super
Bowls and was Brady’s most reliable target,
catching 76 of his touchdowns (37 more than
September 4, 2019 | East Oregonian and Hermiston Herald
anyone else). Julian Edelman put on a display
in last season’s Super Bowl win, receiving
10 catches for 141 yards, which earned him
the Super Bowl MVP award, and he should
emerge as Brady’s most popular target this
season.
Despite wanting to play until he’s 50 years
old, Brady is nearing the end of his illustrious
career, and each passing game becomes
more sentimental. Don’t miss the start of
