Newsome Oregon State Police Lt. Mike Turner said Ryan Newsome, 28, was still receiving care when he spoke to medical staff on Friday morning. Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, Washington, could not release any details or updates to Newsome’s condition when con- tacted Friday afternoon. Pendleton Police Chief Stuart Roberts said — and local media outlets initially reported — he was contacted through email by a relative of Newsome’s indicating he died from his injuries. Troopers with OSP continue to investigate the Thursday inci- dent and Turner said no informa- tion about the fi rearm used in the incident will be released since the investigation is still in its early stages. “We will do a complete and thorough investigation to estab- lish the facts of the case,” he said. The incident originated Thurs- day morning, Roberts said, after police received reports of shots fi red from the 300 block of South- east Dorion Avenue. Later that morning, police retrieved a bullet from a bedroom window frame. Police located and pursued Newsome’s vehicle later on Thursday until the chase was called off due to high speeds that were deemed too dangerous for public safety. Kids take center stage at county fair Fun at the Fair Day Camp grabs the spotlight Friday at Umatilla County Fair By JESSICA POLLARD East Oregonian HERMISTON — As pigs roll around in the swine barn, and musi- cians draw crowds on the Main Stage, a dozen or so bales of straw provide seating for where the magic really hap- pens — the Les Schwab Stage at the Umatilla County Fair. It’s where Jace Otteson, 14, traded in his belt and shoes for two used Bar- bie dolls while under the spell of hyp- notist Chris Mabrey. “It was fun,” said Otteson, who noted he was a little embarrassed about his dazed performance. It’s also where juggler Jeremiah Johnston teetered on a wobbly wooden board while tossing knives and torches into the air with ease during his act Thursday night, and where comedy cowboy Leapin’ Louie broke spaghetti with the crack of a whip on Friday afternoon. “This is the real spaghetti western,” he told the crowd.
