Hermiston’s facility is used for high school sports and community activities By ANNIE FOWLER East Oregonian ERMISTON — Hermiston High School’s Kennison Field turns 6 years old this month, but recent testing showed that the playing surface is in pristine condition. Buzz Turf Synthetic Turf Testing of Boise performed the annual test on the facility’s synthetic turf last month, with H the report reflecting continual good main- tenance since its installation in 2013. “Our turf being in such good shape shows our school district made the right choice by buying quality turf and hir- ing the company that we went through,” Hermiston athletic director Larry Usher said. all is good news with the fall sports season getting under way later this month. Football practice begins Aug. 21, while girls soccer starts Aug. 26. According the report, the field was tested in designated areas to measure shock attenuation. Testers use what’s called a G-max test to measure impact on the field. The higher the G-max score, the less impact the field is absorbing. the results help determine if there are any areas of concern, and if repair or replacement is required. G-max tests must be below 165 to be considered safe. Kennison Field passed with flying colors, testing out between 103 and 125. “We make sure our field is safe in a time of heightened awareness of inju- ries,” Usher said. “Our field is as safe as it can be. It graded out as a new field.” The company also distributed crumb rubber fill in the areas that needed it to make the field cohesive. Miley (10-4) allowed three hits and two runs in six innings to win his third straight decision. The four home runs Kikuchi gave up were a season high and he allowed nine hits for the sec- ond time in three starts to lose his third consecutive decision and give Houston three starters with 10 or more wins this season. Daniel Vogelbach hit a two- run homer for the Mariners, who lost their second straight after winning their previous six games. PETERSON Associated Press Miley solid, Astros hit 6 homers to rout Mariners 10-2 SPORTS SHORTS First female referee to officiate European Super Cup NyON, Switzerland (aP) — Stéphanie Frappart has been appointed as the referee for the European Super Cup between Liv- erpool and Chelsea, making her the first woman to officiate a major UEFA men’s showpiece event. UEFA announced Frappart’s appointment on Friday, adding that the Frenchwoman will lead a team of predominantly female officials, with Manuela Nicolosi of France and Michelle O’Neal from the Republic of Ireland serving as assistant referees. The 35-year- old Frappart was also in charge at the Women’s World Cup Final between the united States and the Netherlands. uEFa President aleksander Ceferin says: “I have said on many occasions that the potential for women’s football has no limits.” It is not the first time a female has refereed a men’s UEFA compe- tition match.
