PENDLETON —Heidi Haug recently landed a paid internship with the Oregon East Symphony. A student at Blue Mountain Community College, Haug is gaining valuable experience in non- profit arts administration as well as grant writing and development. A violin- ist and symphony strings teacher, Haug also is part of the teaching staff for the Summer Strings Music Camp. The position is paid in part with a grant from Altrusa International of Pendleton. In addition to creat- ing the next generation of musicians, the symphony is excited to provide support for career development. Tillamook churns out donation East Oregonian BOARDMAN — The local local Boy Scouts of America/Boardman Police Department Explorer Post benefited from a recent donation from the Boardman Til- lamook Creamery. The Boardman Police Department Explorer Post expressed appreciation for the generous donation of $1,000 in support of the local youth program. The money is being used to provide uniforms, equipment and sponsorship to the Oregon Annual Law Enforcement Challenge. Officer Cory Rosen said the group hopes to do well at the event, which is Aug. 1-4 at the Camp Rilea Armed Forces Training Facility at Warrenton. Enjoying the dog days of summer TOLLGATE — During a day trip to Jubilee Lake this past weekend, the Wise- man family of Pendleton saw everyone and their dog enjoying the nice weather while participating in out- door fun. Noemi Wiseman was especially delighted to see a young lady rowing a two-person raft with her dog. In addition to enjoy- ing a picnic, the Wisemans hiked on trails around the lake and soaked in the sum- mer sunshine. Located in the Uma- tilla National Forest, Jubi- lee Lake offers camping and a day-use area, includ- ing fishing and swimming. It’s located about 12 miles northeast of Tollgate. American Legion Post 37 was one of the division winners during the Stanfield Fourth of July parade. Stanfield announces Fourth of July parade winners STANFIELD — The overall winner of the Stan- field Fourth of July parade went to the Desert Shrine Club led by Jim Leitch. Second place went to Jim Morris and his 1955 M38A1 Military Jeep and third was Petsense driven by Yazell Chavez. Category winners were Shirley Pettit and Tony Erickson (clas- sic car), local motorcy- cle riders (new vehicles), Glory Riders of Ore- gon (horses), Ameri- can Legion Post 37 (roy- alty), Scott Harvesting driven by Patrick Scott (farm), Stanfield FFA (youth/fraternal), Patriot Auto Glass (business) and Hermiston Warm- ing Station with Teesie Hill and Sandy Francis (miscellaneous). The pie-baking con- test winners were Jen- nifer Baros (first place adult), Kylee Ranson (sec- ond place adult), Bethany Woodall (third place adult), Taylor Carnine (first place junior), Katelyn Smith (second place junior), Will Smith (third place junior) and Jory Carnine (fourth place junior). He is loving and sweet, needs to be in a home with older couple or someone single. He does have some back issues that require his walks with a harness (does not seem to bother him, should watch him for signs of discomfort).
