BRIEFLY
SAGE Saturday features balloon fun
BOARDMAN — Kids are invited to create their own
balloon-powered car during SAGE Saturday.
The event is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the
SAGE Center, 101 Olson Road, Boardman. The free activ-
ity is available while supplies last. Also, participants are
encouraged to tour the museum exhibits. And admission
is free.
The SAGE — Sustainable AGriculture and Energy —
Center is an interactive visitor’s center. It provides infor-
mation about technology within the Port of Morrow and
beyond. There’s also a museum store, which includes Tilla-
mook ice cream sold by the scoop.
Center hours are Sunday through Thursday from 10 a.m.
to 5 p.m. and Friday/Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Reg-
ular admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors/students and
free for children under 5, active military personnel and
veterans. There is a $20 maximum for a family. For more
information, call 541-481-7243 or visit www.visitsage.com.
Car show revs up
with poker run

HERMISTON — Mem-
bers of the Hermiston Clas-
sics Car Club are getting
revved up for their annual
car show.
In its 24th year, the Cool
Rides Car Show is Satur-
day with registration from
7-10:30 a.m. at McKenzie
Park, 320 S. First St. The
vehicle entry fee is $25. The
first 100 registrants will
receive a goody bag, which
includes dash plaques, an
event T-shirt and more.
Awards, which will be pre-
sented at approximately
1:30 p.m., will include
nearly two dozen categories.
Lisa Sturgeon, the club’s
treasurer, said the show typ-
ically draws around 100
entries. A big draw, she said,
is the location.
“The shade is really
nice,” Sturgeon said. “It’s a
lot better than sitting on the
hot asphalt in the middle of
the sun.”
The event also features
live music, vendor booths, a
raffle (including a gift bas-
ket from Comrie RV, bat-
tery charger, stereo system
and welding helmet) and a
special game as part of the
50/50 raffle. To play, peo-
ple can purchase a lei for a
chance to win half the pot.
Also, the club is gearing
up for the show with their
annual poker run. Sturgeon
invites everyone to partic-
ipate — people don’t have
to belong to the club or
enter the car show to join
the Friday night fun, which
includes dinner.
To participate in the
poker run, head to McK-
enzie Park at 6 p.m. to pick
up a map and scorecard.
The cost is $5 per hand.
When leaving the park, the
entourage will “parade”
through the parking lots at
a couple of local assisted
living facilities.

Energy Trust to discuss draft plan
Staff photo by Tammy Malgesini, File
A 1951 Mercury 2-door coupe owned by Jerry England got lots of looks during the 2018 Cool
Rides Car Show. In its 24th year, the event revs up Friday with a poker run/dinner, and the car
show Saturday at McKenzie Park in Hermiston.
“We thought it would be
a fun way for the people liv-
ing there to see the cars,”
Sturgeon said.
People will then cruise
to the five sponsoring busi-
nesses to pick up cards for
their poker hand — return-
ing to the park by 7 p.m. for
dinner and to determine the
winners. The car club will
provide the meal’s main
dish. Poker run participants
are asked to bring their own
beverages (no alcohol) and a
side dish or dessert to share.
The Hermiston Classics
Car Club holds business
meetings the first Friday
of each month — usually
at Desert Lanes, 1545 N.
First St. During the summer
months, group members
hang out on Friday nights
from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Les
Schwab Tire Center, 830 N.
First St.
“We’re just there to have
a good time and give peo-
ple an opportunity to see
the cars,” Sturgeon said.

PENDLETON — The Energy Trust of Oregon will
discuss its draft 2020-24 strategic plan during a pair of
local meetings.
Executive director Michael Colgrove invites public
comment on the organization’s draft 2020-24 strategic
plan during a public reception. In addition, members of
the board of directors and staff will be available to answer
questions. Customers of Pacific Power, Cascade Natural
Gas and Avista are especially encouraged to attend.
The reception is Tuesday, July 23 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
at Pendleton Center for the Arts, 214 N. Main St. It offers
the public an opportunity to engage in Energy Trust’s
strategic planning process, which occurs every five years.
The draft plan builds on the organization’s history in
serving residents and businesses with clean energy solu-
tions, including more than 7,000 sites served in Umatilla
County since 2002. For the next five years, Energy Trust
of Oregon will continue to invest utility customer funding
in low-cost energy efficiency and clean, renewable power
for people and businesses.
The public also is invited to a board meeting Wednes-
day, July 24 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Tamástslikt Cul-
tural Institute, located near Wildhorse Resort & Casino,
Mission. They will discuss the draft strategic plan, pro-
gram updates and a charter for Energy Trust’s proposed
diversity advisory council.
