Swing for the fences: MLB London Series
features Red Sox and Yankees

F
or the first time in Major League Baseball
history, regular-season games will be
played in the United Kingdom under the MLB
London Series title. The inaugural series is set
to feature two games between the Boston
Red Sox and New York Yankees. Catch the
first game of the MLB London Series on Sat-
urday, June 29, with live action from London
Stadium on Fox.
Despite losing slugging outfielders Aaron
Judge and Giancarlo Stanton to injury early
in the season, the Yankees have managed
to stay on top of the American League East.
Their success is a testament to the depth that
general manager Brian Cashman has built
for the team. After receiving criticism for his
poor performance last season, Gary Sanchez
has stepped up.
The 26-year-old catcher is rebounding
from a 2018 season that was marred by a
groin injury, and he appears to have returned
to his 2017 Silver Slugger form that saw him
hit 33 home runs, drive in 90 runs and score
79 runs.
After losing to the eventual World Series
champion Boston Red Sox in last year’s
American League Division Series, the Yankees
have come out ahead of the Red Sox so far
this season, going 4-1 against their longtime
divisional rivals. If the Yankees maintain their
current form, the Red Sox can only hope to
play for a Wild Card playoff position and
make a run at defending their title as World
Series champions. The Red Sox started the
season slowly but found their winning ways
once last year’s AL MVP Mookie Betts hit his
stride in May.
The MLB London Series is set to feature
one of the greatest sports rivalries in its inau-
gural year. Tune in Saturday, June 29, as the
Red Sox take on the Yankees.
