Bucks’ Lane Maher is in the finals of both hurdle events By ANNIE FOWLER East Oregonian Pendleton’s Sam Jennings won the Inter- mountain Conference javelin title on Friday with a toss of 157-5 at Crook County High School in Prineville. Jennings earned a trip to the 5A state track meet next week at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham. Teammate Redmond O’Hanlon was sixth (131-2), but only the top two advance to state. Edwin Linares will join Jennings at state after winning the triple jump with a leap of 44-0 1/2. Pendleton’s Zaanan Bane (40-5 1/2) and Jonathan Swaggart (40-1 1/2) finished fourth and fifth. PREP ROUNDUP Irrigon blows out Outlaws in Special District 5 tournament East Oregonian Zack Henrichs tallied six strikeouts and sur- rendered just two runs to their Enterprise visitors on the way to a 10-3 vic- tory on Friday. Irrigon’s victory was their first in the postsea- son and was part of a day of Special District 5 tour- nament baseball games. Enterprise blew out Vale 18-5 earlier in the day. Damon Sawyer, Caleb Adams, and Payton Smith all put runs on Irrigon’s board in the bottom of the second to bury the Out- laws early. Joe Vandecar singled on a line drive to center field in the sixth to drive in two more runs. Vandecar led the Knights’ offense with four RBIs. Adams went 2-for-3 at the plate to score two runs. David Salim, who pitched four innings of relief for the Outlaws, gave up six runs on five hits and three walks. 5A state tennis Pendleton’s girls tennis team sent two athletes to Friday’s Portland-hosted state tournament, but nei- ther will be advancing beyond the first round. Senior Katie Bradt, who went in unseeded, lost in two 6-0 sets to Corvallis senior Anna Kern. Junior Bethany Flanagan lost to La Salle Prep junior Ashley Smith 6-0, 6-1. Softball THE DALLES 4, MAC-HI 3 — The Pio- neers may have posted more hits, but their Riv- erhawks hosts ultimately walked off with the win during Thursday’s non- league contest. The game was tied at 3-3 with The Dalles’ Bailey LeBreton batting. She would single on a 1-2 count, scoring a run and getting the walk-off victory. Sydney Earls surren- dered four runs on eight hits over 6 1/3 innings in Mac-Hi’s circle. The game was Mac- Hi’s regular season closer. The Pioneers (16-8, 8-4) finished at No. 2 in the Greater Oregon League. They’ll host a state play- off game on Wednesday. Mark Yarbrough (10-9) and Grady Naugh- ton (10-3) finished fourth and fifth in the pole vault, while Everett Willard was fifth in the shot put (43-8), and O’Hanlon (41-5) seventh. Lane Maher advanced to the finals of the 110 and 300 hurdles. He has the top time going into the 110 finals at 14.91 seconds. He is the No. 2 seed in the 300s (42.91). Aaron Luke is in the finals of the 200 and 400, while Aiden Patterson, Cam Sanford and Blake Davis are in the 100 finals. San- ford also is in the 200 finals. For the girls, Emma House won the jav- elin title with a toss of 107-10, while Muriel Hoisington was third in the long jump (15-6), and Jamie Gau fifth in the high jump (4-6). Sarah Scott was seventh in the javelin (91-1). Elisabeth House made the 100 finals, while Hoisington and Kaolyn Henderson are in the 400 finals. Kendall Bonzani is in the finals of both hurdle events.
