CROC gears up for one-day supported ride
Popular bike event
returns after one-year
hiatus
By TAMMY MALGESINI
East Oregonian
After a one-year hiatus,
Pendleton On Wheels is get-
ting back in the saddle to offer
a one-day supported ride. The
Mini CROC is a trimmed-down
version of the Century Ride
of the Centuries that the small
group of bicyclists offered for
15 years.
“Hosting a multi-day ride is
a heavy lift for our small club
but we’re excited to offer a Mini
CROC in beautiful Eastern Ore-
gon,” said Debbie Davis.
CROC organizers received
numerous compliments about
the ride and how much it would
be missed when they announced
there wouldn’t be a 2018 event.
As they’ve geared up for the
mini-version, CROC enthusi-
asts embraced the return —
even with the shortened format.
“Our group is glad to hear you
will put on a one-day CROC, it
is a great event and entertaining
stops, food is always great too,”
said Carl Swantek of Boise.
The classic one-day event
features 44-mile, 78-mile or

100-mile options up Cabbage
Hill and beyond. Amazing
scenery awaits riders as they hit
the road during the Mini Croc.
“The views are worth the
climb and you will be rewarded
with one of CROC’s themed rest
stops and SAG support,” Davis
said.
The event is Saturday, May
25 — during Memorial Day
weekend. It begins at 8 a.m. at
Tamastslikt Cultural Institute,
located near Wildhorse Resort
& Casino, Mission. Limited
to 125 riders, the fee is $60.
It includes full SAG support,
themed refreshment stops, and
a burger bar dinner and evening
social event at OMG! Burg-
ers & Brews, Pendleton. Also,
non-riders are invited to enjoy
the evening meal and social
gathering for $20.
Registered participants can
pick up packets Friday, May 24
from 4-7 p.m. at Echo Bike and
Board, 253 S. Main St., Pendle-
ton; or late packet pickup is May
25 from 7-8 a.m. at Tamastslikt.
Proceeds from the event help
fund the POW grant program.
Money is disbursed to organiza-
tions that promote youth activi-
ties in and around Pendleton.
