A method to March Madness: A-10 and Big Ten championships set for tipoff

e’re approaching that exciting time of
year when NCAA conference tourna-
ments are in action and teams are fighting
for a spot in the Division I Tournament.
One method of guaranteeing a spot in the
March Madness bracket comes from the
automatic bid to the champion of its re-
spective conference’s tournament. Tune in
Sunday, March 17, when the championship
games for the Atlantic 10 Tournament and
Big Ten Tournament tip off, with live cover-
age on CBS.
The A-10 Tournament championship
game will be held at the Barclays Center in
Brooklyn, New York. Davidson entered the
tournament as the defending champion of
the A-10 for the first time since its departure
from the Southern Conference in 2014. The
Wildcats did not have similar success in the
Division I Tournament, having been knocked
out in the first round by Kentucky. Davidson
has never won a Division I, and has only
gone as far as the Elite Eight. The last time
the Wildcats made that deep of a run in the
Division I Tournament was in 2008, on the
back of current NBA all-star and three-time
NBA champion Stephen Curry.
Michigan entered the Big Ten Tourna-
ment in Chicago, Illinois, as a two-time
defending champion. Last year, the Wolver-
ines upset No. 1-seeded Michigan State in
the semifinals and defeated Purdue for its
second Big Ten tournament title. It entered
the 2018 Division I Tournament as the No. 3
seed of the West Regional and reached the
Final Four, ultimately losing to top-seeded
Villanova 79-62. Michigan hopes to find
itself back in the Final Four and get another
chance at its first Division I title since 1989.
Teams won’t have much time to cel-
ebrate their championship win as the NCAA
Division I Tournament begins Tuesday,
March 19, with the First Four round being
held at the University of Dayton Arena in
Dayton, Ohio. Tune in Sunday, March 17, on
CBS, to find out which teams take the A-10
and Big Ten titles and extend their paths to
the Division I Tournament.
