celebrated with their only
living child, Alan, in
his marriage to Chrissy
(Holden) Froese from Port-
land, Oregon. The Fro-
ese family grew
by the young cou-
ple adopting seven
children over time.
Belva
enjoyed
being a grand-
mother to her many
grandchildren and
great-grandchil-
dren.
After
they
retired from farm-
ing they enjoyed
traveling the U.S.
in their RV. Even after Paul
passed in 1989, Belva and
her girlfriends traveled the
U.S. including Hawaii.
Belva and her dear friends
enjoyed baseball and bas-
ketball on TV. She lamented
that she was disappointed
that after 20 years of enjoy-
ing and cheering the Seat-
tle Mariners baseball team,
they still can’t make the
playoffs!
Belva’s husband, Paul,
and daughter, Doreen, pre-
ceded Belva in death. She
is survived by son Alan and
wife Chrissy Froese of Ath-
ena; granddaughters Tiffanie
(Tony) of Auburn, Washing-
ton, and Tessa of Auburn;
grandsons Bryce (Ashley)
Froese of Alabama, Tanner
of Phoenix, Arizona, Brady
of Arizona and David of
Athena; and great-grandkids
Donovan, Hudson, Parker
and Rachelle.
Belva will be remem-
bered for her dedication to
Jesus, and her prayer life
for her family and friends.
A Celebration of life for
Belva will be held on Mon-
day, November 26, 2018,
at 11:00 a.m. at the Ath-
ena Christian Church, Fifth
and Van Buren streets, Ath-
ena, Oregon. Private family
interment will be held at the
Athena Cemetery.

MONDAY
5:48 a.m. - Emergency services responded to a crash at the
entrance to the Walmart Distribution Center, 2650 Highway 395,
Hermiston. A semitrailer turned to enter the site, according to
Oregon State Police, but the heavy, dense fog obscured sight
and a Ford Ranger pickup heading north struck the semi. The
driver of the semi was OK and drove off, but the pickup needed
a tow and its driver, Silvestre Cazares Juarez, 65, took an
ambulance ride to Good Shepherd Medical Center for treatment.
State police also cited him for driving uninsured.
8:11 a.m. - The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office took a
report for a burglary at Tino’s Painting, 84026 Highway 11,
Milton-Freewater,
10:09 a.m. - A Milton-Freewater resident on the 300 block of
Powell Road reported the theft of numerous tools.
1:13 p.m. - Pendleton police received a complaint about
harassment from a resident at Vista Village Mobile Home Park,
2801 S.W. Houtama Road. Police determined this was not a
criminal matter, but a civil problem.
2 p.m. - A caller on Interstate 84 in Morrow County reported
an odd ambulance was behind her. The side of the vehicle
displayed “Grand Junction,” she said, but there were no license
plates and the driver was not wearing an emergency or medical
uniform.
2:06 p.m. - Pendleton police responded to the 1600 block
of Southwest Emigrant Avenue to handle a disturbance, but
officers arrived and did not find anyone causing problems.
2:19 p.m. - A resident on West Kennedy Street, Echo,
reported the theft of his Sony PlayStation.
3:32 p.m. - A Hermiston resident on West Joseph Avenue
reported possible fraud and theft.
7:09 p.m. - A 911 caller relayed a message from a friend who
reported her son wrecked in a Chevrolet four-door car and was
injured at Poleline and Frontage roads near Hermiston. The
Morrow County Sheriff’s Office and Boardman ambulance and
fire services responded. The ambulance took the victim to Good
Shepherd Medical Center, Hermiston.

Monday
•Oregon State Police caught a fugitive after a crash.
Erik George Davis, 38, of Walla Walla, Wash.,was driving
west on Interstate 82 in a Toyota Sequoia when the vehicle
caught ice outside Umatilla near milepost 10 and went out of
control. A nearby Toyota Tundra clipped the Sequoia, which
flipped over the guardrail.
State police and other emergency services arrived, and
troopers arrested Davis on a warrant out of Washington.

Kenneth Harvey Long,
63, of Pendleton, Ore., died
November 2, 2018, in Spo-
kane, Wash., surrounded by
family.
Ken was born
on July 30, 1955,
in Lovelock, Nev.,
to Robert Dale and
Loa R. Long. He
was the oldest of
three children. He
was an inquisitive
child and teen. Ken
was always inter-
ested in electron-
ics, ham radio, Long
broadcasting, pho-
tography and pyro-
technics. Anything he could
take apart, he took apart and
studied. He befriended those
in need, a trait he carried
with him the rest of his life.
He loved to study people.
Ken did well in school.
He ran track, played foot-
ball, played in the band, a
Boy Scout, a radio DJ and
avid hunter. He was a mem-
ber of the National Honor
Society. His father died
when he was 14 and Ken
took multiple odd jobs to
pay his way and help his
mother and family. After
graduating from Persh-
ing County High School he
moved to Portland, Ore.,
attended and graduated
from UEI - United Electron-
ics Institute.
He married Lezlie C.
Bugg in 1976 together they
had four children. He held
a number of jobs includ-
ing insurance salesman,
McDonald’s manager, a
soap factory worker and oth-
ers. They purchased a home
in North Powder, Ore.,
where he attended Blue
Mountain Community Col-
lege and earned his journey-
man and supervisory elec-
trical licenses. He worked
as a lumber mill electrician
in North Powder and was
a partner in a Baker, Ore.,
electrical shop.
After his divorce in 1987,
he moved to the Pendleton
area where he worked for
Pendleton Electric, becom-
ing the senior electrician. He
taught electrical apprentice
classes at BMCC. He loved
a challenge and became
the go-to guy when others
couldn’t solve a
problem.
Ken was a
founding
mem-
ber of the Pendle-
ton Underground
Tours, doing their
electrical work as
the project devel-
oped. He was the
on-site electrician
for the Pendle-
ton Round-Up and
the Happy Canyon
Show. He found his niche as
the electrical and pyrotech-
nic point man for Happy
Canyon. His booms and
crackles have been enjoyed
for 25-plus years.
Ken was preceded in
death by his father Robert,
his mother Loa and a grand-
son, Corbick Long. He is
survived by his partner
Mary Finney; his children
Robert Dale (Abi) Long,
Nellie Long, Kenneth Rich-
ard (Serena) Long and Lil-
lis (Josh) Lavadour; grand-
children Kellie, Robert
Walker, Zoe, Ashley, Dan-
iel, Kahlena, Joella, Caleb
and Lillian; his sister Mar-
lene (Craig) Shier, brother
Russell (Paula) Long and
half-brother Richard (Betty)
Talbot; his uncle Cal (Jay)
Riddle; and several nieces
and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will
be held for Ken on Decem-
ber 22, 2018, in the Happy
Canyon Room of the Pend-
leton Convention Center at
1:00 p.m.

Belva Jean McIntyre
Froese joined her husband
Paul and daughter Doreen
with Jesus on November
13, 2018, peacefully in her
home with family
by her side.
Belva was born
on March 10, 1924,
to Archie and Edna
Potts McIntyre in
Pendleton,
Ore-
gon. Growing up
in Athena on the
farm, she enjoyed
riding horses to
school and helping Froese
cook meals for the
harvest crew, and
camping in the mountains
while huckleberry picking
with friends, making many
wonderful memories.
After graduating from
Athena Belva spent one
year at (OCA) OSU in Cor-
vallis. The following year
she worked for a year in
Portland as a reception-
ist. She returned to Athena
to work for a lawyer. Soon
after returning to Athena she
went on a blind date with
Paul Froese. They married
in June 1945. Belva helped
Paul farm while enjoying
raising her two children,
Alan and Doreen.
Each year while the chil-
dren were growing up they
traveled to the Oregon Coast
after harvest and she always
made a special stop off at
Meier & Frank to buy a
yearly hat. Paul and Belva
also found time to square
dance at the grange hall in
Adams.
In 1954 Belva was bap-
tized at the Athena Chris-
tian Church and a wonder-
ful journey began for her
in serving others. She was
a Sunday school teacher,
Cradle Roll welcome chair-
man, deaconess, Missionary
Guild participant and sup-
porter, choir member, and
played the piano.
She was an avid reader
and usually sported a book
nearby. She served as a
library board member many
years. She found time to vol-
unteer at Pendleton Commu-
nity Hospital, participated
in the local Seowain social
club and Athena Study Club.
