RECORDS Wednesday, November 14, 2018 PUBLIC SAFETY LOG FRIDAY 4:37 a.m. - Pendleton police looked for a prowler in the area of Southeast Court Place and 18th Street but did not find a suspect. 2:51 p.m. - A Hermiston resident on Southwest Sandy Drive asked for an officer to call her about her ex coming to her house in violation of a restraining order. She said she was afraid he would come back. 4:11 p.m. - The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint about illegal dumping on Shaw Road near McKay Reservoir south of Pendleton. 6:39 p.m. - Hermiston police took a report for a vehicle theft on Southwest Ninth Street. SATURDAY 12:15 a.m. - Pendleton police responded to a fight at Crabby’s Underground Saloon, 228 S. Main St., Pendleton. 10:26 a.m. - Umatilla police responded to a fight at a residence on El Monte Street. 10:56 a.m. - Oregon State Police responded to Interstate 84 near milepost 210, Pendleton, where a green Ford pickup traveled across the freeway’s lanes heading west in the eastbound side and crashed into a state-owned fence. The engine was cold and no one was at the scene by the time police got there. The crash is under investigation. 1:19 p.m. - Pendleton police took a report for criminal mischief at Til Taylor Park, 700 S.E. Dorion Ave. 2:49 p.m. - Hermiston police received a report of possible child abuse or neglect. 3:50 p.m. - Umatilla police took a report for criminal mischief at Sam’s Stop and Shop, 131 Sixth St. 4:56 p.m. - Oregon State Police responded to Columbia Outdoor Sports, 395 E. Main St., Hermiston, after Jesse L. Hart, 35, of Umatilla, tried to buy a gun. State police reported its background check system flagged Hart because he is on probation and has multiple convictions for misdemeanor domestic violence crimes. State police notified Hart’s probation officer. Hart faces possible charges for unlawful purchase of a firearm, false swearing and providing false information in connection with the transfer of a firearm. 10:43 p.m. - Pendleton police received a report of a prowler at Eastern Oregon Gymnastics, 1819 Westgate, but an officer did not see anyone suspicious. SUNDAY 4:26 p.m. - Pendleton police received an emergency report of an assault on Southwest 40th Street. 5:47 p.m. - A 911 caller reported an assault and a female bleeding from her hand at the laundromat at 415 S.E. Fourth St., Pendleton. 9:53 p.m. - A caller reported a prowler on Northeast Fourth Street, Hermiston, but police did not find any suspects. MONDAY 5:57 a.m. - Hermiston police took a report for a burglary on the 1500 block of Northeast 10th Street. 11:09 a.m. - Two adults and two young children suffered non-life threatening injuries in a one-vehicle crash on Highway 37 near milepost 11 north of Pendleton. Oregon State Police cited the driver, a 29-year-old woman from Weston, for not having a driver’s license. 4:16 p.m. - People smoking outside the front door of Colts Cafe, 233 N. Main St., Heppner, drew a complaint to the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office. The caller was concerned this violates the smoke-free requirements. 4:58 p.m. - Staff at the Conoco station, 419 S. Main St., Milton- Freewater, reported the theft of the donation jar. 5:37 p.m. - A man told the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office he is having friends take care of his cat at his ex-wife’s house on Southeast Gilmore Street, Heppner, but he is concerned about the cat because of the cold and a restraining order prohibits him from going to the home. 8:12 p.m. - Emergency services responded to the eastbound side of Interstate 84 near milepost 187 for a gold Honda Civic that caught fire. The driver, David Lara III, 23, of Echo, escaped unharmed, but the fire fully engulfed the car before firefighters arrived. 9:44 p.m. - The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on West Ballou Road. Milton-Freewater, after the 911 caller’s mother assaulted him and his girlfriend with a cane. ARRESTS, CITATIONS Sunday •Oregon State Police arrested a 17-year-old Milton-Freewater boy for driving under the influence of intoxicants (alcohol). •Oregon State Police arrested Tyler Scott Jessen, 29, of Pilot Rock, for DUII (controlled substances). Monday •Pendleton police arrested Jason Allen Leis, 34, of Pendleton, for domestic violence misdemeanor assault. •Hermiston police arrested Tamara Kay Hurse, 45, of Pendleton, for felony methamphetamine possession and on a warrant for failure to appear. Mael Pendleton March 30, 1926 - November 3, 2018 Monument September 9, 1941 - November 4, 2018 Leon Adolph Reese of Pendleton, Oregon, joined his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the morning of November 3, 2018. Leon was the son of Ralph A. and Wilhelmina (Rohde) Reese of Echo, Oregon. He was a 1944 grad- uate of Echo High School. During WWII he served as a radio mechanic in the Army Air Corps in France and Ger- many from 1944 to 1946. He was an expert in radar and radio theory and Reese was asked to go to England to help the British develop and work on their ship radar units. At one point in France he assisted with the radios on Gen- eral de Gaulle’s personal aircraft. When he returned home, because of his military training, he was awarded junior academic status at the University of Oregon. He fell in love with Dor- othy Farrens in high school and married her on Septem- ber 11, 1946, in Pendleton. They had a strong, inspiring 70-year marriage. He and Dorothy operated a family wheat farm west of Pendle- ton for over 50 years, while also maintaining a herd of registered Angus cattle. Leon served on the boards of Pendleton Grain Growers, Farmers Home Administra- tion, Oregon Angus Associ- ation, Echo School district and Peace Lutheran Church. He was the 1987 County Conservation Farmer of the Year. He also was the state president of the Ore- gon Angus Association and chairman of PLC and EHS. During their retirement Leon and Dorothy served together as Farmer to Farmer volunteers with Volunteer Overseas Cooperative Assis- tance in Eastern Europe. Leon was a lov- ing husband, father, grandfather and friend with a keen sense of humor and an infectious smile. He was gen- erous, selfless, and a man of deep faith exhibiting a quiet strength, gentle wis- dom, and love for life. Leon enjoyed many outdoor activ- ities including hunt- ing, fishing, golf and maintaining his garden. Leon is preceded by his wife Doro- thy, and brothers Jacob and Erwin Reese. He is survived by his brother Donald Reese, Echo; sis- ter-in-law Darlene Fletcher, Portland; children and spouses Ryan Reese (Julie), Gleneden Beach, Sher- man Reese (Stacy), Deer Park, Washington, and Betsy Sharp (Daniel); sis- ter Arleta Thorne (Timothy), Pendleton; 13 grandchil- dren and spouses; and seven great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at the Echo Ceme- tery at 1:00 p.m. on Novem- ber 17 with Reverend Travis Larsen officiating. Burns Mortuary of Pend- leton is handling arrange- ments. Roberts, 48, of Hermiston, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2018, in Hermiston. She was born March 24, 1970, in Sycamore, Ill. Arrangements are pending with Burns Mortu- ary of Hermiston. He was born in Pendleton, Ore- gon, on September 9, 1941, to Stoney and Ruth Mael. He attended most of his schooling at Ukiah, Gibbon and Weston, Oregon, and graduated high school in Enter- prise, Oregon, in 1959. He entered the U.S. Navy soon after graduation and completed Mael his basic train- ing in San Diego, Califor- nia. He was assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Prince- ton LPH-5 in the Philippines from 1959 to 1963 as a sheet metal worker, building and refurbishing ships and boats. He received his honorable discharge in 1965, after his three years of serving in the reserves in the Navy. His line of work was an auto body mechanic, mill worker and in his younger years a firefighter. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and trap- ping, along with his partici- pation in car shows, in which he won multiple awards with his 1976 Luv pickup. He was an enrolled Assiniboine-Sioux at Ft. Peck, Montana. He was proud of his Native Amer- ican bloodline and used his skills to build reproductions of Native America weaponry, which included lances, bow and arrows with quivers, and tomahawks. He was also a mas- ter at making horn handle knives. He is survived by is wife Suzi of 32 years; daugh- ters Toni Jones of Cove, Oregon, and Staci Perry of Port- land, Oregon; step- daughter Pamela Pollard of St. Petersburg, Florida, and stepson Bryon Gard- ner of Orlando, Florida; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by his parents, both sis- ters, and his stepson Scott Gardner. At the family’s request, memorial contributions may be made in his name to: Hope 4 Paws, John Day, Oregon, or to Silent Wave Horse Rescue, Kimberly, Oregon, through Driskill Memorial Chapel, 241 S.
