Allen Ione March 21, 1931 - November 6, 2018 Sweet Home November 10, 1954 - November 5, 2018 John William Jepsen, 87, passed away on Novem- ber 6 at his home in Ione, Oregon. He was the son of Walter and Matilda (Burns) Jepsen. He was born in Heppner, Oregon, on March 21, 1931. He was the fourth child in a family of nine chil- dren. He attended and graduated from Ione High School in 1949. He was mischievous and sometimes led a few students on escapades. He Jepsen worked for farm- ers in the area for a short time after he graduated. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on January 7, 1953. He spent his basic training in San Luis Obispo, California. He requested overseas duty and was sta- tioned in Germany for two years. While in Germany he traveled as much as he could, and on his leave time he visited his father’s fam- ily in Denmark. He loved the Army and had thoughts about an extension, but decided to come home and go to school on the G.I. Bill, so decided to be discharged on December 15, 1954. He attended Ore- gon Technical Institute in Klamath Falls, Oregon. He took refrigeration for two years, and after grad- uation he came back home and worked for the local farmers. When he couldn’t find refrigeration work, he finally went to work for Harold Dobyns, who owned Dobyns Pest Control. After one year of training he offered to sell John the busi- ness, which he bought with the hopes that he could also purchase the house on the property, which he finally purchased in 1961. In 1961 he met (Betty) Jean Gray. She was a hair- dresser and worked for Lois Winchester in Hep- pner. They were married in 1962 in Ione. In April of 1964, they wel- comed James (Jim) into their family. In 1970 they adopted Judy Marie to com- plete their fam- ily. John was sup- portive of the kid’s involvement in school, 4-H, and church activities. After the kids were grown, he decided to sell the business and the home to his son Jim and his wife Gina. John and Jean then pur- chased a smaller house and moved a little closer to Ione. He was a charter mem- ber of the Ione Lions Club, Ione American Legion Post # 95, the Ione Commu- nity Church, and was also a member of the Pacific Northwest and Oregon Pest Control Associations. He served as a deacon for over 30 years. He enjoyed doing upkeep and grounds mainte- nance at the local churches, as well as the Legion Hall. In the past several years he loved spending time with his grandchildren, and trav- eling with his wife, and assisting anyone in town that ever needed a little extra help. John is survived by his wife Jean; his children Jim and Judy; his grandchil- dren David and Heather; his great-grandson Kian; and his siblings Betty Newton, Anna Larson, Frank Jepsen and Evelyn Elder. They are all the love of his life. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the Ione Community Church. Burial with military honors will follow at High View Cemetery in Ione. You may sign the online condolence book at www. sweeneymortuary.com. Bruce is sur- vived by his wife Kathy, their three sons Phillip, Harry and Bryon, his mother Yvonne Allen of Salem, Ore., his father Clair Allen of Reedsport, Ore., brother Randy Allen Allen of Lebanon, Ore., and four beautiful grandchildren he loved very much. Bruce was born in Leb- anon, Ore., on November 10, 1954. He graduated in 1972 from Lebanon High School and worked as a die- sel mechanic throughout his career. On April 4, 1979, he married Kathy and they moved to northeast Ore- gon. The family purchased a 24-acre ranch in Herm- iston, Ore., called the “Sil- ver Rose Ranch.” He loved the country life and all that came with it. He owned and operated a successful truck repair business for 14 years. After closing his repair business, he had a rewarding and enjoyable career at Stre- bin Farms. He was an active member of the Umatilla Volunteer Fire Department, and he took great pride in service to his community. After 30 years in Hermiston, Bruce and Kathy returned to Sweet Home to be closer to family. Bruce was a devoted husband, father and grand- father. He enjoyed all things outdoors and loved camp- ing with his fam- ily. He enjoyed target shooting, and hunting of all forms to include deer, elk and duck. All who knew him found him with the biggest smile when he was behind the wheel of his Jeep and was always looking for the next person to give a ride. But, he was always happi- est when he was with his family, no matter where that happened to be. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all that knew him. A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 12 at the Huston-Jost Funeral Home in Lebanon, Ore.
