bag of weekend music.
•Thursday, Nov. 8 — After
graduating from Idaho’s Moscow
High School in 2010, Ben Walden
headed to the Berklee College of
Music in Boston before returning
to the Pacific Northwest to
attend Evergreen State College.
The 24-year-old says he has “an
unhealthy obsession with music.”
However, those who have heard
him are far kinder, saying “music
is spilling out of” him.
As an 11-year-old, Walden
wowed audiences with his
harmonica playing at Idaho’s
Yellow Pine Harmonica Contest
— placing second in his age
division. In addition, he won
the “Crowd Pleaser” award. In
2016, he released three albums.
And, earlier this year he recorded
“Spiral Highway,” playing guitar,
mandolin, fiddle, piano and
vocals.
•Friday, Nov. 9 — Pete Krebs,
whose musical exploration includes
everything from punk rock and
gypsy jazz to traditional country
and western swing, is returning
to Pendleton. Originally from
southern California, Krebs has been
a fixture on the Portland music
scene since 1987. He has been
inducted into the Oregon Music
Hall of Fame twice, most recently
as a solo act in 2016 and three years
earlier with the band Hazel.
Krebs has shared the stage with
a broad range of top musical acts,
including Nirvana, Elliott Smith,
Peter Rowan and The Hot Club
of Cowtown. In addition, he has
received positive ink from such
publications as Rolling Stone,
Spin, Magnet and No Depression.
His commercial work has been
featured nationally for NASCAR
and the National Football League,
as well as the Oregon Lottery.
•Saturday, Nov. 10 — Blue
Plate Special, a five-member
bluegrass band, will round out
the weekend of shows. The La
Grande-based group features Jon
St. Hilaire, Sharon Porter, Michael
Snider, Carla and David Arnold.
