The group recently began rehearsals and will continue to meet Tuesdays and Thurs- days through Dec. 4, as well as Monday, Nov. 26. They won’t meet Nov. 22 and Nov. 29. The rehearsals are from 6:45-8 p.m. at the Hermiston Community Center, 415 S. Highway 395. Coordinated through Hermiston Parks & Recreation, the registration fee is $5 for Hermiston res- idents and $7 for non-resi- dents. The choir is open to ages 14 and up. The Community Christ- mas Concert is Friday, Dec. 7 from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Hermiston High School auditorium, 600 S. Food drive features free film for kids HERMISTON — Kids are invited to enjoy free pop- corn and soda while watch- ing “Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation” at Herm- iston Stadium 8 Cinema. Serving as a food drive, admission is by donation of a non-perishable food item, which will be distributed through local food banks. The event is Saturday with the doors opening at 8:15 a.m. at 355 W. Theater Lane, Hermiston. The film will start in each theater as it fills, with the last start time at 9 a.m. Parents may attend with their children. Kids will receive free popcorn and soda. Muddy Frogs round up square dancers MILTON- FREEWATER — People are invited to kick up their heels and participate in modern western square dance lessons. Offered by the Muddy Frogs Square Dance Club, a pair of free introductory lessons are being offered Sunday, Nov. 4 and Sunday, Nov. 11 from 2-4 p.m. at the Milton- Freewater Community Building, 109 N.E. Fifth St. Subsequent weekly lessons are $3 each. There is no charge for youths. In addition, scholarships are available. No experience is necessary. No partner? No problem. PENDLETON FFA alumni harvest support for student program By TAMMY MALGESINI East Oregonian The Pendleton FFA Alumni Association is pre- paring to set the table in sup- port of the Pendleton FFA Chapter. In its eighth year, the din- ner and auction fundraiser is Wednesday, Nov. 14 at the Pendleton Convention Cen- ter, 1601 Westgate. The auc- tion preview opens at 5 p.m., a tri-tip dinner will be served at 6 p.m. and the live auction starts at 7 p.m. The event also features an update on Pendleton FFA and presen- tations by student members. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for youths under 11. The alumni group hopes to raise at least $15,000. Proceeds from the din- ner and auction will help fund FFA project and class- room expenses, assist stu- dents with convention costs and provide scholarships to graduating FFA seniors. Items on the auction block include a Camp Chef SmokePro pellet smoker, a Honda lawn mower, a Reel Buckaroo Guide Service spring-run Chinook fish- ing trip for four people on the Willamette River and a six-person steelhead trip with Stahl’s Guide Service. Scott Palmer got involved with the alumni group through his granddaugh- ter Macy Rosselle, who is the current PHS chapter president. “I’ve been to a lot of goat shows and that was my introduction to it,” Palmer said. During this past sum- mer’s Umatilla County Fair, Palmer was introduced to Jensen. A former Round-Up queen, Jensen joined Camp- bell — who was previously named agriscience teacher of the year at the state FFA convention — as a co-advi- sor of the PHS chapter. Palmer said with Camp- bell’s experience and Jen- sen’s enthusiasm, the duo has big plans for the pro- gram’s future.
