Ore- gon State Police on Tuesday identified the victims. James Edward Tincher, 41, of Walla Walla, died in a head-on crash Sunday night north of Milton-Freewa- ter. The multi-vehicle wreck also injured five other peo- ple, including two children. Tincher was driving a 1998 Ford Mustang south on Highway 11 at a high speed, according to state police, and slammed into the back of a 1991 Ford Escort. The Mus- tang crossed into the north- bound lanes and smashed into a 2002 Chevy Suburban. Tincher died in the crash before emergency respond- ers arrived, according to state police. The crash shut down the highway for about six hours. State police reported Horacio J. Mendoza Cas- tillo, 25, of Milton-Freewa- ter, drove the Escort and had one passenger, a 24-year-old man also from Milton-Free- water. Jason Lee Morgan, 40, of Baker City, drove the Suburban. His wife, Kara Morgan, 36, and their two children, a 6-year-old boy and 9-year-old girl, were passengers. Photo contributed by Oregon State Police Alexander Ionita, 62, of Salem, died in a rollover wreck on Highway 395 in southern Umatilla County when his vehicle crashed into Camas Creek. Local ambulances took five victims from the crash to Providence St. Mary Med- ical Center, Walla Walla. The Morgan family via social media reported the hospital released them the night of the crash. The second deadly crash occurred in the south end of Umatilla County. A caller at about 2 p.m. Monday reported a pickup in a ditch off the northbound side of Highway 395 near milepost 53, south of Ukiah. State police reported troop- ers and emergency personnel responded and found a black 2016 Dodge Ram was head- ing north on a left turn and headed off the road, rolled down an embankment and landed in Camas Creek. Alexander Ionita, 62, of Salem was the driver and lone occupant, state police reported. Ionita was wearing a seatbelt but died in the cab from injuries. People are invited to kick up their heels as the Pendleton Contra Dance Community resumes its monthly events at Pendle- ton Center for the Arts. The group welcomes people of all ages and skill levels. No experience or partner is necessary to participate. “The goal is to have fun, enjoy music, meet new and old friends and learn a little more each time,” said Jill Johnson. “If you get lost, there are more experienced dancers to guide you.” The upcoming dance is Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the basement at the arts center, 214 N. Main St., Pendleton. The event fea- tures live music by local musicians, playing a mix of bluegrass, old-time, tra- ditional or even techno beats. The cost is $8 for adults or $15 for a cou- ple. No childcare is pro- vided, but kids are wel- come to participate with their parents. Contra dancing has its origins in a range of folk traditions, includ- ing English country dance and Appalachian dancing, Johnson said. Callers teach the sequence of the dance steps before the music starts. “It’s a form of social dancing that one can attend without a partner,” she said. “Dancers are paired up in long lines and fol- low the instructions of a caller.” The dances, Johnson said, provides a fun eve- ning with live music and lots of laughter. There is no set dress code, but Johnson said smooth-soled shoes allow people to turn easily.
