Pelleberg leaving for
Washington job
Russ Pelleberg, Umatilla’s city
manager, said he is leaving for a city
administrator position in Newport,
Washington.
Newport is a town of roughly
2,000 people on
the Washington
and Idaho border,
north of Spokane.
Pelleberg
announced
his
resignation from
the city Wednes-
day and plans
to work through
July 27.
In an email he Pelleberg
said he is leaving
on his terms, and “on great terms with
the city of Umatilla.”
Pelleberg joined the city in 2013
as public works director and was pro-
moted to city manager in March 2016.
He had previously worked in Wash-
ington, in the Tri-Cities area.
The city has not yet announced a
plan for replacing him, but will accept
his resignation and remove him as
signatory on city bank accounts at its
regular meeting Tuesday, July 3. The
meeting is at 7 p.m. at Umatilla City
Hall.

National Forest, and Tri-State Steel-
headers, children will get the chance
to learn about fishing and earn prizes.
“We will have lots for the kids to do,
including a casting contest with prizes
for each age group and awards for
the biggest fish caught during official
derby hours,” said Umatilla National
Forest fish biologist Bill Dowdy, “The
lake will be stocked with legal and
trophy-sized fish for the event.”
The event is free to all children 14
and under, although kids older than 12
will be required to have a valid fish-
ing license. All youth who register and
participate will get a free hot dog and
soda pop, but also must be accompa-
nied by an adult.
Fishing poles will be available for
loan for all kids who do not have one
while Tri-State Steelheaders are ask-
ing participants to pay it forward by
donating poles in any condition for
future events.
Jubilee Lake is located 12 miles
northeast of Tollgate on Forest Road
64. To get there, turn on State High-
way 204 from Highway 11 at Weston
and turn left on Forest Road 64.
Patriotic Sunday features
ice cream social
MILTON-FREEWATER — An
ice cream social will top off Patriotic
Sunday at the Milton-Freewater First
Christian Church.
The public is invited to attend Sun-
day school classes, which meet at 9
a.m. Rev. Steve Lyons is teaching a
series of classes titled, ‘’Questions in
the Bible’’ and John Mitchell is lead-
ing a series based on ‘Ephesians. The
worship service and junior church
begins at 10 a.m. The church is located
at 518 S. Main St., Milton-Freewater.
The ice cream social will take place
this Sunday on the front steps after the
morning services, which conclude at
11 a.m. Gordon Hall, Carole Lyons,
Barbara Walters and Judy Carlson will
be serving.

from the church’s south side. Also,
an elevator is available on the north

HERMISTON — The commu-
nity is invited to Church in the Park,
hosted by Hermiston Church of the
Nazarene Church.
The event is Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
at Victory Square Park, 150 S.W. 10th
St., Hermiston. People are encouraged
to bring their friends to the casual
family-oriented service.
Be sure to grab some lawn chairs,
and bring your sunglasses, soccer
balls and Frisbees for a fun, faith-
based service in the park. A potluck
lunch is planned afterwards.
The church will provide pulled pork
sandwiches, plates, napkins, cups and
utensils. Those attending can bring
other fixings and side dishes to share.
