was born Aug. 11, 1954. A celebration of life will be held Saturday,
May 12, 2018, from 2-4 p.m. at the Pilot Rock Community Center.

FRIDAY
8:58 a.m. - Pilot Rock police left courtesy notices for code violations
on Northeast Elm, Second and Third streets.
10:07 a.m. - The Pendleton police code enforcement officer
responded to a home on Northwest Ninth Street about trash piling up in
the backyard.
10:59 a.m. - The Pendleton code officer also responded to a home
on Southeast 19th Street on a complaint about garbage and chickens.
11:57 a.m. - A caller asked to speak to a Pendleton officer about her
ex-husband’s ex-girlfriend harassing her via phone.
2:46 p.m. - The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office received a report of
a vehicle theft from a site on Highway 332, Milton-Freewater. Another
caller at 3:18 p.m. reported a vehicle theft at McKay Drive and Tutuilla
Creek Road, Pendleton.
5:35 p.m. - Hermiston police received a report of child neglect.
7:16 p.m. - Stanfield police took a complaint about stalking.
9:42 p.m. - Teens were fighting on Southwest 21st Street, Pendleton.
9:44 p.m. - Oregon State Police stopped a silver Volkswagen Jetta
at Highway 30 and Theater Road, Pendleton, for a traffic violation and
impounded the car when neither the driver nor passenger had licenses
or proof of insurance.
9:58 p.m. - The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office investigated a
report of gunshots on Baxter Road, Hermiston.
SATURDAY
12:24 a.m. - The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office responded to the
Sub Zero Restaurant & Lounge, 100 Highway 730, Irrigon, for a man
that assaulted the bartender. Deputies arrested the suspect, but the
sheriff’s office did not identify him.
12:30 a.m. - A wife on Northwest Geer Road, Hermiston, called 911
and reported “some guy” was on the porch and her husband had a gun.
4:23 a.m. - A 911 caller reported a domestic disturbance at a home
at Lloyd Road and King Lane, Hermiston.
2:22 p.m. - Fire and ambulance services responded to a report of an
office fire at Riverview Mobile Home Park, 1370 Highway 730, Irrigon.
3:14 p.m. - Pendleton police took a report for graffiti at the city’s
public works shops at 1501 S.E. Byers Ave.
4:48 p.m. - A caller reported he returned to his home at the
Columbia River Ranch, a mental health residential treatment facility at
70362 Kunze Lane, Boardman, and found someone vandalized the
garage and stole fishing equipment.
7:19 p.m. - Oregon State Police stopped a white Nissan Versa for
speeding east on Interstate 84 near milepost 157 (going 93 mph in a 70
mph zone). The trooper impounded the car because the driver had no
insurance. The driver also received a speeding ticket.
7:19 p.m. - Pendleton police took a report of theft at Willowbrook
Terrace, 707 S.W. 37th St.
8:56 p.m. - Umatilla police received a report of a vehicle theft on
Deschutes Avenue.
11:18 p.m. - Hermiston police responded to a report of a female
assault victim on the 100 block of East Main Street.
Joey was born April
17, 1934, in Rouge River,
Oregon, to parents Walter and
Ruth Combs. She died on
April 24, 2018, at Guardian
Angel Homes in Hermiston
at age 84.
At the age of two, her
family moved to
California
living
in
Wilmington,
San Leandro, San
Lorenzo, Arkada,
Weed, Bakersfield,
Castro
Valley,
Hayward,
Big
Lagoon, Gualala,
and Patrick’s Point,
graduating
from
Pointe Arena High
School. Her family Duff
also lived a short
time in Tonopah, Nevada.
On June 10, 1952, after
graduation, she married
Robert (Bob) Duff in Chey-
enne, Wyoming, while he
was serving in the U.S. Air
Force. Bob joined an interna-
tional construction company
after his military service,
which took Joey (and family)
to nine different states and
South America. She became
an expert at moving before
settling in the Hermiston area
in 1977.
Joey was a devout Chris-
tian and throughout the years
was involved in numerous
churches in Hermiston. She
always wanted more in her
relationship with God, never
satisfied, always wanting
to be a better Christian and
a beacon of God’s light for
those she knew and those
she would come in contact
with. Some described her
as being exuberant about
her relationship with God.
Throughout the years in
Hermiston she was involved
in Aglow, National Day of
Prayer, Campus Life, Chris-
tian Athletes, See you at the
Pole, feeding the homeless,
and served as Good Shep-
herd Hospital chaplain. She
spent countless hours driving
through Hermiston praying
for revival.
Survivors include three
daughters Debby (Virgil)
Culver
of
Goldendale,
Washington, Laura (Larry)
Harsin of Pendleton, Oregon,
and Lisa (Mike) Bunch of
Kennewick,
Washington;
25 grandchildren;
58
great-grand-
children; and nine
great-great-grand-
children.
She
was
preceded in death
by her parents, four
sisters, her husband,
and her only son
Richard.
Celebration
services will be
held Monday, May
7, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at the
Hermiston Christian Center,
1825 W. Highland Ave.,
Hermiston, Oregon. Burial
will follow at the Pleasant
View Cemetery, Stanfield,
Oregon. The celebration will
continue with a potluck at
Hermiston Christian Center,
where there will be story
sharing and music. Services

eastbound on Interstate 82 near milepost 8 and found the driver had
a suspended license, making for the third time in three days local
troopers impounded a car.
7:08 p.m. - A Hermiston mother on the 400 block of Southeast Seventh
Street told police her daughter’s boyfriend pushed her grandson.
10:54 p.m. - Hermiston police responded to an assault on the 1300
block of North First Street.

Friday
•Pendleton police arrested Shawn D. Simpson, 60, of Pendleton, for
driving under the influence of intoxicants.
Saturday
•Pendleton police arrested Jacob McLain Gonsalves, 34, of
Pendleton, for violating parole, fourth-degree assault and strangulation.
•Oregon State Police arrested Bryce Arnold Simmons, 22, of
Hermiston, for two counts of harassment and domestic violence charges
of fourth-degree assault, strangulation and second-degree kidnapping.
•Pendleton police arrested Lawrence Thomas Picard Jr., 25, of
1712 1/2 S.E. Court Ave., Pendleton, for the felony of aggravated
harassment (spitting at an officer) and misdemeanors of harassment,
second-degree trespass and interfering with a peace officer.
Umatilla County Circuit Court records show the district attorney’s
office Monday morning arraigned Picard in Pendleton on those
preliminary charges plus carrying a concealed weapon — to wit, metal
knuckles. Picard remains in the county jail, Pendleton.
