TENNIS: Dual on Saturday COLLEGE: Robles struck
out four for Treasure Valley
Continued from 1B
weather, and after having an
advantage over Capital’s top
duo lost their outing, 7-5,
1-6, 6-10.
Multiple
times
McCullough’s forehead was
a little too much when his
back was to the wind, and the
ball sailed over the back court
giving the Golden Eagles
something to build off of. At
the net, Wicks kept a couple of
rallies alive in the second set
but it wasn’t enough to keep
Capital at bay.
“It’s one of those learning
curve matches,” West said.
“The boys have to learn
how to play against different
styles.”
Amidst the conditions
and the spurts of good play,
Hermiston saw a consistent
effort from a singles player
and one doubles pair, who
earned the only two wins for
the team.
Hayden Cissna handily
defeated his opponent 6-0,
6-1 and Trent Pitney and
Josue Cadenas — the No. 3
doubles group — won their
match in a tiebreaker, 3-6,
10-5, 6-2.
Pitney and Cadenas are
3-for-3 on the week after
winning matches against
Hood River on Tuesday and
The Dalles on Wednesday.
Jaiden Ruloph rounded
out singles as the No. 3
player and lost his match,
0-6, 4-6. In doubles, Austin
Garcia and Matt Eckhardt
finished out the day and
dropped their game 4-6,
2-6. In a bout of frustration
as play was wrapping up,
Eckhardt begged the wind to
stop in between points, but it
never let up.
Back at Hermiston High,
the girls team wasn’t able to
play a full match as Capital
only brought five players
to face the Bulldogs, and
despite their best efforts,
Hermiston fell 4-2.
The wins came in singles
where No. 4 singles player
Breckyn Mecham won, 6-0,
6-0, and in doubles with the

match with Capitol on Thursday in Hermiston.
No. 1 duo of Reed Middleton
and Breena Wadekamper.
The Bulldog pair won 6-6
(10-7), 2-6, 10-8.
“Reed and Breena played
a very good match,” head
coach Jason Sivey said. “They
did very well in tiebreakers,
but overall played some of
the best tennis I’ve seen this
year. They were very strong
at the net and played more
aggressively. It was a tough
fought battle and they came
out on top.”
Sivey went on to add that
the team didn’t see the results
they wanted too in on the
other courts.
Hermiston’s Mackenzie
Hill was up against Capital’s
No. 1 singles player and
could barely get a set point
in against the tough competi-
tion. Hill ended up dropping
her match 0-6, 1-6.
Both Adriann Stewart and
Lindsay McAllister lost their
matches. Stewart dropped
hers 0-6, 1-6, and McAllister
was the final Bulldog on the
court and lost in a tiebreaker,
5-5, 5-10.
Due to time constraints
that
cut
McAllister’s
tiebreaker at 5-5 to finish
things off, Mecham and
Alyssa Perkins’ doubles
match was a pro-set, and the
first to eight was the Golden
Eagle duo.
UP NEXT
Hermiston will return to
the court Saturday when the
Bulldogs host Eisenhower
for an afternoon dual at
Hermiston High beginning at
12 p.m.
